I have done a few of these and have had no trouble .I simply use a carbide bit to drill thru the hard surface then finish with aregular high speed bit.If someone says "heat" run like mad. flyguy

Years ago... It is called 'spot annealing' a softening of the metal only where to be drilled. This is an easy one for a qualified gunplumber.
Here is some information about drilling and tapping the 03A3 wrrtitten by Harold McFarland who was a premier gunsmith during the era when many 03A3's were being converted into sporters. Hope this is of some value.
