Not only the expense, but the pain! Three years getting past the tendonitis "fire".
But, before 2004, Ft. Benning ran tactical matches that limited every one to ten rounds. The auto clip eject, a bit more muzzle forward weight, and a SEI muzzle brake kept the Garand competitive! Not many folk running "big" ARs then, so my biggest "foe" was a fellow running an M1a. We never knew which of us was going to prevail. At least we kept the M4 operators' attention- noisy, brutish fellows that we were! Even ran matches at night. Slapped a short rail on the side of a stock for mounting a light. Worked, too!
