That's an interesting observation about WD40 because we weren't permitted to use it as a general gun lubricant. I never really understood why but just stuck to the party line when I had to - but used it anyway on the basis that ANY lube was better than NO lube

The real problem with WD40 as a lubricant is that it turns to a gummy mess, then varnish. Many, many deer and duck guns "mysteriously" cease to function at the start of each hunting season- "It was working fine last year (etc.) before I put it away..."

Yeah, probably just a nature call, they seem to take longer as you get older, not to worry, we are quite capable of keeping his seat warm until his return.
