It depends on my mood I guess. The No.4 has a very get down to business and get the job done look while the No.1 is quite elegant.

Two instructors from the Sniper Division at Warminster know a thing or two about rifles and here they are with the prize. And their rifles, my favourite too. The L42A1
I must say I think the L42 is most 'andsome too. Mind you
the no1 mk3 is the most iconic for me.
Does this glut of pictures mean that a mastery of the uploading process has been acquired Peter? ;) Can we expect a 125-picture special of the LAIDLER no 4t in the near future?
No.4 with groove cut upper hand gaurd.
Wouldn't mind a L42A1 my self ......
Just looks? Nothing else?
Have to rank them, I suppose.
Snider 2-band Sgt`s Rifle Mark III
LE Mark I
SMLE MarkIII
Number 4
and they ALL look pretty darned good, when you get right down to it, each in its own particular era.
I think there is NO weapon as downright intimidating as an SMLE with that extra 17 inches on the front end. The Pattern 1903 bayonet looks positively POLITE in comparison!
.
I have to go with the SMLE. Elegant and business-like all in one. Having said that, my No4 MkII is possibly the better shooter. A smooth trigger, better sights and longer sight radius have some bearing there.
It is any Lee-Enfield that I want that I cannot have...
