I want reliability when I need it. Accuracy as much as my eyes can give me. Feel and features that please me. And a damn fine looking pistol. It will last past my lifetime, so why not get what you really want the first time. When I wanted one other then for my military collection I stupidly started at the low end $800-$900. Troubles with FTF, FTE, fair accuracy (4"-5") broken parts. So I moved up to the $1200-$1500 not as bad but simialr issues. Eight years ago I took the plunge into semi custom and bought an Ed Brown Classic Custom. A lot more money, but oh am I pleased. First off it is a good looker. It feels good in the hand. You don't feel the slide slamming back and forth, it is one smooth motion. It is under 1 1/2" at 25 yards. And has been 100% reliable from the start. This year I bought a Wilson. Same thing. There is no way I can improve upon these two pistols.

More money, sure it is. But I feel I wasted my money starting with lessor quality, trading or selling them to keep moving up until I found some superb guns. Either would be the last 1911 you would need to buy.

I would suggest at least giving it some consideration. Go to the LGS and hold one. Watch out, you will want to fondle it too.

The problem I am having is the cost at this point. If we all had ample money there would be no cheaper ones made. Us college students are known for being hard up for cash and I am no exception. Maybe I'll get there someday but right now it looks like a cheaper one for me. Thanks for the imput.

The R1 will do you just fine. Give 'Er...

I have a R1 and I love it. It is well made, well fitted and well finished.
It is very representative of Remington products.

It shoots everything I feed it, with not hiccups at all. I have shot factory, reloads and recently some very heavy 250 grain Pinbuster bullets, all without a glitch.

You will not be disappointed at all. Has a good feel, and fun to shoot.
