The character on the left appears to be Kanji 538
"Kun" (Japanese) reading is oshi / oshieru= teach
"ON" (Chinese) reading is kyo = teach / religion (i.e. teachings)
Instant suspicion: something to do with training???
That is the side effect of these ideographs: you aren't even sure which language is intended, but the signs are the same, so you can get the sense!
