I've seen this in other CNo7. Generally headspace or extractor cut too deep. There are bolt head sizes ranging from 0 to 5 to correct headspace. What # is on your bolt head?. If not headspace then the exractor is cut too deep and wall of cartridge is unsupprted. If later then it requires the barrel to be removed, set back and rechambered. Is the barrel original to the rifle? There are quite a number of put together CNo7's surfacing as a supply of new receivers has appeared. Is there a serial number on the left side of the butt sockett. Confirm these details and I might be able to tell you more. Ron

Even though they're difficult to see photos, those cases indicate to me something major wrong with the chamber of the rifle. Get it looked at PDQ is my advice.

Hi guys thanks for the responses, the rifle ser # is 0L7740 I beleive and its 1945 dated. The number on the bolt head is 3 and the bolt matches the rifle. I have not had the wood off yet to check the barrel for a number but I looked at the chamber when a cartridge is in there and there is a space where the brass is not supported and thats where the case is blowing out. I am taking it back to the man I bought it off tomorrow.

Your Cno7 serial number is correct for a 1945. If the serial number on the butt socket and bolt match then you have a very desireable CNo7. Barrels are not serialized. The chamber can be repaired if that's the issue. You could ask the seller for a refund for the rifle or it's repair by a competent person. Pictures show a nice clean CNo7. It would be wothwhile having the rifle examined by a gunsmith to determine extactly whats wrong. Hard to say for sure by looking at a few pictures. Hope this helps. Ron

Thanks Ron, I read a lot about the rifle before I decided to buy one but I missed the extractor cut being too deep, it doesn't appear to be chipped but I can't be sure. Did the extractor being cut to deep happen at the factory ever? The wrist serial #s seem to be the same as the ones on my no 4 longbranch as far as I can tell. And there doesn't appear to be the flatspot I have seen in pics of made up ones. I will post some pic's tomorrow showing the problem and of the gun itself. I would like to get a cleaning rod and original brushes but assume they are next to impossible to come by. Kyle

If you can get a picture of the extractor cut maybe I can tell you more. I've seen correct cleaning rod, jag, brushes for sale. Just need to keep watching the ads and shows. I dont know why the extractor cut would be off if factory. Pull the rear handguard and see if there are any markings on the barrel. If you can post a picture of the muzzle head on. Ron (Canada)

Without any shadow of doubt whatsoever, the extractor way in that barrel has been butchered - and I mean BUTCHERED! How do some let these butchers loose on these things. Your comments regarding the other bits are mere incidentals KC. It's the barrel that is the problem and without putting too fine a point on it, and in my humble experience as an Armourer, it's scrap!
