I just thought it was interesting that the case containing the M1 carbine prototypes also included one of only two known Johnson Auto-Carbines. Not something you see every day.
You could buy a Johnson shipped in the US Mail for about $65? You couldn't find a Garand with a Geiger counter. My friend had a Johnson, a fascinating weapon. The coolest magazine set up, you could top it off with individual rounds, but that barrel was just hanging out there ready to be bent. Wow! All those prototypes in one place.
Notice a 'T' stamped almost on top of the '1', for 'Tool Room'. Look at the strange shape of the recoil plate! No, that is not a production piece.
Hi, Regarding the Springfield Armory Museum. If you ever have the chance to get there, be aware there are two floors. The first is open free of charge and has great displays. The second floor has is a fee, but you have to make prior reservations to go on the tour of an astounding collection of many type of firearms. Well worth the price of admission. John
I went there in May 2011. We weren't charged to go to the second floor, that must be new. It's a historical place, some pretty cool stuff there.Quote:
