Fear not. At least in my estimation, you have a well travelled but genuine No4 T. The vast majority of 4T's were built on BSA Shirley rifles, so any Savage 4T must be considered a little more scarce than the norm. Yours is also unusual in that it has a very high serial number for a Mk1 rifle. It was produced just at the change-over point between Mk1 & Mk1* rifles, so this could be why it was mis-stamped as a Mk1*. The markings on the early conversions were not consistent like the later rifles, so the smaller non-standard receiver side wall T is not an indicator of it being a fake. I have two 43 BSA's with similar T's.
Apart from sourcing a scope & bracket all you need is a cheekpiece. Originals are becoming scarce but good quality repro's are available on that internet auction site amongst other places.

Nice rifle. A Savage/H&H 14C Mk.1 "T" with a two groove barrel is very interesting. I've had a few 15C rifles that were legit H&H conversions, all Mk.1*. I still have one Savage Mk.1 "T" in my personal collection. It's 0C160 and was never finished with the addition of a telescope and bracket which is the case with many Savage/H&H conversions. Yours was completed since it sports the scope number on top of the wrist. Try EFD "The Enfield Specialists" for a correct cheekpiece. I've got correct wood screws, both brass and phosphated steel if in need.
I'd agree with Brian. I have owned several Savage T's in the 12 to 15C range but all were Mk1* rifles. I have had a couple of Mk1 rifles, both of which were/are 0C's.

thanks to all who replied to my thread. i have reprodution scope mount from numrich gun corp. which is excellent. i put a bushnell sharpshooter scope 4x32
on, that i had laying around. also have a repro. cheeck piece for it. now all i have to do is go to the gun range and sight it in. i will keep looking for the original scope &mount. thanks again copperone.
I have just had a look at my Savage Mk1 serial No. 12C7961 and it has a star. It is definately
a Mk1, I had never noticed the star before . The worker with the star must have stamped everything with a star.

Maybe my knowledge of Savage rifles is lacking, but I wouldn't have expected a 14C---- rifle to be a MkI rather than a MkI*
The changeover from MkI to MkI* was the 12C block; however, I have seen MkI's in the 13C, 15C, 17C, 19C, 22C, and 54C blocks.
