I believe you will find that the scope base is a reproduction Redfield, not Leupold. (MHO just based on the pictures and the condition of the entire gun setup)

If you decide you want the correct or as near correct as you will get barrel, I will trade you a brand new "still in the wrapper" Remington 03A3 barrel for the Smith Corona!
That is if you can get it removed without any damage, and presuming that it has a pretty good bore!

The Redfield Jr base was not designed for use on this rifle, but it was close enough. The US military found that the front of the base needed to be raised with metal shims, & the mounting screws were then staked.
