What kind of rifle & cal. would you want to use when hunting a Bigfoot/Sasquatch ;-)

50 cal bolt action sniper rifle with night vision scope. They are too smart to be caught off guard with any normal short to medium range setup. You need something good for 500 plus yards.

In the 200 plus years the United States has been in existence, not a single Bigfoot has ever been killed and brought in by any hunter. That alone should tell you something. Those that may have shot one, didn't live to return and tell about it so they have to be exceptionally difficult to kill.

You need something with reach, something with stopping power and something that is extremely accurate. You might not get a second shot. I'd probably want two or three guys with 12 gauge shotguns filled with 00 Buckshot as backups.

Based on the supposed eye witness accounts the critter normally prefers to hang out in dense wooded areas with most encounters reported as being less than 100yds so a hunter armed with a long range scope sighted rifle would be at a disadvantage. But for the ambush hunter looking to catch a squatch crossing a distant open valley it would be ideal. For the up close and personal type encounter I don't think a person could find a better weapon than the English made double rifles used for hunting dangerous game in Africa, in fact most African PH's prefer them to bolt actions. Second best large caliber choice, IMO, would be a Winchester Model 1886 in .50-110 Express, although it's capability of delivering a fast follow up shot is somewhat slower that the double.
However, in the hands of a calm cool collected hunter a large caliber isn't really a necessity. It is said that Walter Dalrymple Maitland ''Karamojo'' Bell killed 1011 elephants in his 16 year career as a professional hunter in Africa with nothing more powerful the a .303 Lee Enfield. He took around 800 of them with a .275 Rigby(7x57 Mauser) and the balance with a 6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schoenauer and the .303. All kills were brain shots with military FMJ bullets.
Also not sure that I'd want my seconds armed with buckshot scattering shotguns, slugs would be much more reassuring.

We used to have them in the southeastern US. Now extinct. Ate every last one.

I've heard they are quite numerous in Pennsylvania although I have unfortunately never seen one. But then, I've only ever seen 5 bears in the wilds in 40 years of woods walking/hunting and they were all within the last 10 years, four at the same time, a mother and 3 cubs. Now Pennsylvania has a lot of woods but not what I'd call "dense" woods. While most deer encounters are less than 50 yards, you can get shots off out to 300 in many areas with careful shot placement. The woods are also pretty much devoid of ground cover due to the deer so a lot of feeding occurs in the farmers fields in the middle of the night. Thus the long range set-up. Best place to be would be an area where you can scan the 20 ft of open ground between the ripening corn fields and the woods. With rolling hills, you can be on a nice hilltop 500+ yards away and be able to scan several fields. If it's a big one, you should be able to see it walking through the corn itself.

Let's make it a little more interesting. You have to use one of the un-altered (it can be restored but nothing which wasn't "issue" can be added to it) milsurps you personally own.

I select my Swiss K31 as it is incredibly accurate, fast to operate and has sights that seem to agree with my aging eyesight.

Since I don't have a B.A.R. and my M1A isn't technically a milsurp I'll go with my M1 Garand and hope I don't end up looking like Beetle Bailey after Sergeant Snorkel gives him an attitude adjustment.

Personally I would use my No5 to prevent you from harming this "human like" animal, tie you to a tree and let him or her have their way with you...Just my 2 cents.:slap:
