The Savage "T" I had was absolutely correct as a "T". It accepted my REL scope/mount. I sold it after I found my Longbranch "T" to put it on. Of course, there was no "T" on the Savage. It went to Canada... maybe the same one? I'll see if I still have the s/n. Gary....
I hadn't seen a repro No8 Case before with the rounded corners. At least they didn't stamp the markings as per the originals.
A couple of months ago I saw A repro. round-cornered No. 8 scope case where "someone" followed the painted markings and actually engraved those same markings into the steel case. When the engraved markings were filled with white paint it looked very similar to a real case with real stamped lettering - except it being really new looking. As I recall, that auction was from a seller in either France or the UK. His listing did advertise it as a repro. - but what about the next time that case changes hands?

By the way, I like the idea of compiling a serial number listing for rifles / components we know are faked. I'll pony-up with the serial number of my Savage No.4 MKI (T) sniper - the number on my rifle is 14C0114 and is dated 1942.
I have both a genuine No8 case with rounded corners and one repo that appears identical to the repo in the above photographs.
My repo case came from Sarco inc.
Comparing the two, they have done a very good job in making the repo case. The dimensions, hinges and closures are very close to the genuine article.
When a sniper rifle or scope - real, unfinished, mismatched or faked appears on Gunbroker (USA), Gun Nutz (Canada) etc. I suggest that commenters include the basic info in their listing (e.g. rifle and scope serial numbers at the minimum) so that future readers (and possible purchasers down the road can positively identify it) because the ads including photos vanish after awhile and the link to the auction/sale become dead.
By recording the serial numbers, the valuable contents made by members can be linked to the rifle and/or scope. Without serial numbers, the comments are orphaned and of limited use.
