The clips alone at $3 each are worth $273 plus the ammo and I am sure he could sell those clips for at least $5 each.

A slight miscalculation, I think: 61 clips @ 3 = 183. 61x6 uncommon bullets = 366. Say another 100+
All in, I would go to about 300, matching the opinion of a couple of other contributors. If the ammo works, that's a bonus, but I wouldn't count on it.
Sorry guys. Pics from rural auctions are not always the best. That auction was a prime example. Auction flash was poor, so the cartridges and clips did not stand out well. The clips were for a Sayre (SP?) and had the nazi markings on the clip and on the cartridge base and dated 1939. I even sent the auction image to a friend of mine who collect cartridges and he took a SWAG they were carcanos .
I suspect they were 8mms. I did not even bid on them
Not a fellow that I'd go for advice in the future! Even a poor photo ought to have either shown the rake of the Steyr clips or, if loaded, the five rounds versus six...

Wrong Steyr, but the clips are about the same, (8mm has windows) even if the ammo is different:

Yes, they are 8mm Steyr. I have a couiple of boxes laying around here but nothing to shoot them from.
The whole lot went for $15. I could have bid the old guy up but I know this guy and we would have got into the hundreds of dollars and then he probably would have dumped them on me!
