The gauge is for use with the "No. 1 Rifle"
Can't remember which manual I got the info from but it lists SM394 as:
SM394 Inspectors, bullet head No. 1 Mk. 1 No. 1 rifle

A number of the descriptions for the other gauges the vendor is selling aren't right;
There's one for a P14 (SM292) Inspectors, plug compound 0.306in. and 0.3007in. Mk. 1
Another for No. 4 & No. 5 rifle, No. 1 rifles (SM386) Inspectors, slip 0.5 in. Mk. 1
Another for the No. 4 & No. 5 rifle, No. 1 rifles (SM391) Inspectors, plug 0.084 in. Mk. 1
let the bun fight begin.
There's a good chance that if it is for a No1 rifle, then it'll be for the No4 rifle too. However, sometimes the style would change because the bullet lead for the No4 rifle was used on a calibrated GAUGE, armourers, rod. This rid was useful for a number of reasons because............. anyway..., it was!
I should have mentioned that in the photo I recall, the gauge was inserted in the bolt way with the "leg" projecting down between or adjacent to the rear trigger guard screw lugs. For some reason I have the impression in my mind that it, or the one in the photo, was used to check alignment of the bolt way with the chamber.
