T Mark
Hi,
I Have a 1943 No4 Mk1* longbranch it has the same marks, the small T, C->, large R and LB all on the Barrel. The Receiver has 3 small T's in total, one at the front, by the screw socket, with a C-> and a LB to. The same T is under the Trigger guard, and one is at the top of the side of the wrist, beside what looks like a big #8 on the Butt side, it's been almost buffed out, also some small random figures are crossed out below the serial #. The Trigger group is marked with the same small T, plus a small S and C->, the Guard has the T a rounded small S, LB, and a C->. The Mag has C->, LB and a B in a circle.
The other thing is, it has is that R marked in a few spots, including the on the Barrel, which is a 5 groover. I understand that R can mean.... rust, replaced or reserved. Interesting thread for me, never seen it before.

The magazine that came with your rifle is for a No 1 Mk 3 SMLE. The No 4 magazine has the first "rib" on the back of the magazine that is closest to the follower and will be smooth below that.
Couldn't find the post that had a side by side picture of mags that is somewhere on the sight.
Hope this helps,

That's the one I was looking for. A picture is worth a thousand words!!

Thanks much! I tried to Google some pictures but didn't find any distinct answers.
Also, did some more looking around on the rifle and found Savage markings on the wood. Looks like this rifle has found spare parts all over the place.

IF it is a genuine TP rifle, then it very probably has got No4 parts from everywhere fitted. It's part of its long history. Hundreds of these TP rifles were supplied under the plan to re-equip the defeated European armies after the war. Belgium (and Holland?) had them. Alas, they didn't fit into the usual order of battle when the 'new' snipers came to England on their initial sniper courses. So were put back into Ordnance and seem to have languished there.
There's much more to it than that if you read back and back and back.........

You are correct: this magazine is not for a No4, but a No1 Rifle.
