Here's my 1898 Krag
According to the the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Krags, Krag rifles should never be caught in steel traps like the one pictured above. They suffer long agonizing deaths and have even been known to chew their own barrels off to get free. (now you really know where the short Krags come from!)

great photo of your IW stocks Are thay comanding a premium over the standard walnut stocked rifles? what would one expect to pay for one these days. on a side note aout 1987 when I started collecting Krags I passed on a mod 99 carbine because it had a bad bore and it was yellow I was looking for a shooter and I thought it was sanded price $300 I still dream about it.
I sure would like to see a photo of a yellow stocked carbine

the IW stocks are not easy to discern , or at least ive not found them so , however ive seen a few that were very distinctly not american walnut ,
my M1898 was a question but in the end i didnt call it one , its the bottom one here

I'm still looking for a nice yellow `99 Carbine. Found one the other day but the stock was heavely sanded, no cartouche, and no hand guard, so I passed on it. Would even consider trading one of my `96 carbines or a 1903A4 for a nice `99 carbine with nicely figured yellow IW wood.

yes it is , not many notice it , i looked long and hard to find a decent one ,
not long after this photo was taken i picked up a nice 96 , since ive sold off that and the 98 , im down to the 92/96 , and my 99 carbine and my bayos/scabords ,

At the last local gun show there was a new/unissued tropical web sling on one of the tables. It still had the brass hooks for the haversack/canteen on it.
Bought it along with a new/unissued M1923 and a new/unissued Kerr no-buckel for the 1903 rifle. Paid $340 for all 3 slings, which I was more than willing to pay for such nice pieces.

I believe I saw that 1898 at Baltimore. I think this may also be one of Bill Mook's rifles.
