Ok, she's all reassembled, incorrect parts have been replaced, ready for the range. Big thanks to all who contributed their expertise! Here are some photos, I think she turned out wonderfully.

Gently removing a recent layer of shabbily applied varnish and a light treatment of linseed oil offends you? Come on mate all I did was undo a nasty modern customisation and returned it to what it WOULD look like had it not been butchered.
Nice work, it looks way better. I have its older brother S42 1937 all metal matching. just about went hungry when I bought it when I was your age (if you were born in 1990). but I've seen only a couple of k98s for sale which were as good and that was years ago. nowdays non captured K98s are scarce anywhere. Though a mate got a real nice one from Scandinavia somewhere.
