The rings are 1" which I think is too small for the German scope. The seller tells me that Russians often mounted their own or Romanian scopes with a 1" dia. Sounds like a lot of bs to me but someone bought it.

Let me go a bit further as I was also a bidder on this one. I noticed that no where did the seller mention the scope mount or rings which also leads one to wonder what is being hidden. I sent a question to which he replied that the mount looked original and the rings were 1 inch which is wrong for a German scope I think (26.5mm?) When I stated this he tells me he is not an expert on German rifles but "that is not true , Romanian and Russians scopes were 1" and some of this rifle were fitted with Romanian and Russian 1" scopes". I thought the rifle worth about 1/2 the asking price as it was certainly not original. I would have been happy to have it to make a repro sniper. If you did pay the full price thinking it original, well, I suspect you have been had. Due to the lack of claims of authenticity by the seller there is little recourse if the gun is not original as he did not describe the rings. I do think his ad stating the gun to be a German sniper is totally misleading. For your sake I hope I am wrong or you got the rifle for much less.

I note no spirited bidding and sold at a near low-ball price. Always makes me back off the deal.

I picked up bcd 4 a few years ago before I had any info on Mauser sniper rifles.
I thought someone had drilled and tapped it for a scope. It was an original sniper receiver but never used.
I couldn't find any indication there was any pins installed for the scope base.
The left side of the receiver was thicker and milled flat as I compared it to my other K98s.
The stock wasn't relieved for the scope base.

No I sold it I couldn't resist the offer.

How much have you been offered, if you don't mind me asking? Pity is, most of the guns without all holes are being converted to a "real" LSR sniper, however those withouth all holes are much rarer than any sniper! Somewhen all of us will cry since these early pieces aren't available anymore ..

Here's an example of the "X" that the Russians put on top of all of the 'RC' receivers they rebuilt. Check for it and/or check to see if it might have been scrubbed off... Even from the few GB photos, it looks like there's been a lot of reworking done on the rifle as covered above by the experts here.

The Germans serialized most all parts on the guns they produced in WWI and WWII, or at least stamped the small parts with the last four digits of the main SN.... I noticed the seller failed to post any Macro photos of anything.
