To be honest I wasn't thinking of the Magna Carta. True the Magna Carta is the cornerstone of western democracy. I think of the Federalist papers and the writings of our founding fathers when I contemplate the what, why, how's of what it is to be American. The Keystone to American rights is, we believe they where granted by God therefore the thought of licensing is repugnant. Mall ninjas are the price we pay for liberty...:)...Off my soapbox now, after all I drive a truck for a living I'm not a history professor...
Hi guys,
Anyone want to return to my original question???
'YES' jonnyc, the thread went far off topic...
I think many people ask questions just to get a response, but there are many more who just bought an M1 Cabrine and know nothing at all about them. I was like that when I bought my first carbine.
Everyone should have a basic understanding of what they are doing with a gun before firing it yes. But can we force them to? No, not in the US. They issue licenses to conceal carry to blind people in the US. They can't prevent them from owning or carrying a firearm unless their rights were taken from them due to very specific reasons. Does it make sense? To me no it doesn't but then again, everyone has the ability to have children and that is more dangerous than any firearm in my opinion.
I'm all for requiring basic parenting classes before anyone can have a child but think of the uproar that would cause.
There are ways to get around it to a certain extent. Ranges are privately owned and can thus regulate who has access to their use. They can require either a class or testing to prove that the individual is competent. I've belonged to only two different ranges and neither had this requirement.
As for the guys asking the basic questions, at least they are asking. And that is a plus.

Very true, and I guess I'll have to hang my hat on that hope. As a public school teacher, I'm a great proponent of both Parenting and Firearms Safety classes. We have classes to get driving licenses, and I consider the previous two to be much more dangerous to society. While a staunch advocate of the 2Am and its original purpose, I sometimes do with there was some kind of "idiot test" to take possession of firearms.
Oh well.
Did you watch the video? just can't fix stupid.
How bout this "highly trained tacticool Mall Ninja". This clown needs a range officer with him at all times, even at bedtime!!

The truth is the really dangerous ones are the blokes who have absolutely no clue and aren't going to ask - ever, no matter what. They are dangerous to themselves and everyone round them.
Small blessing - that lot is more common with power tools than firearms thank.
