Both are correct, they came from military surplus. The tan is earlier though. There were also three lengths as you're probably aware. The bottom one is marked for 1952...the top one was probably hand stamped. Not surprising.

My thoughts are the top one is bogus. The weave is wrong and the lettering in not done with stamps but done/printed by hand. Also never heard of R.I. ORD Center. And it's in the same black ink as the name that's written above the ORD wording. The weave does not look US. Any way, just my opinion, Ray
No, the top one's OK Ray. I know of the vendor and he's good. Besides, I've had two at once that came from surplus sources and they looked like that. I can show you all kinds of examples like that sling. It's ok...the stamp doesn't matter.
That's good enough for me, Ray
The canvas Kerr sling adopted for the 1917 Enfield is about 50-1/2" on the long length and 16-1/2"on the short length. (67" total). This leather sling measures 55-1/2 on the long end and the 16-1/2" on the short length, (72" total). This makes the sling five, (5"), inches longer then the Enfield one. The Trapdoor and Krag slings were 66-68" long.
I wonder why this sling was made so long? Curious what the length of the leather slings that were for sale in that advertisement were.
Ray
Without stating lengths, because I can't...there were three. Sub gun would be the shortest, obviously and then there were two rifle lengths...when Emmagee had those others for sale, I don't remember what lengths he had. The long Krag sling was 72" and was a hold over from the Trapdoor rifle. Later they shortened it.
For the M1917, the Kerr sling long piece should be about 54 inches long, the short piece at 16 inches.
For the M1903, the long length is 48 inches and the short length around 14-1/2 inches.
For the Thompson, the long piece is 40 inches long.
The Krag and TD slings I have with a single brass fastener are 66-68" long. Ray
All that sounds right, except the Krag sling...for some reason I'm convinced they were longer. I'm going to have to look around and see where I got that...
I'm finding info showing everything from 64" to 70"...I sure won't argue with you about that little bit of difference. So, I don't know why that long Kerr sling is so long.
Sorry...thought they were all gone.
