Ah...., it's not the bolts that aren't readily available, but the grips Kev. It comes down to what's easiest for the builder. To make wood Mk2 bolt inserts and glue into the Mk1 grips or machine down Mk1 bolts to fit the Mk2 butt slides........

But it does mean that a needy owner has a couple of alternative routes to take

Sad to say I've still got full sets of NOS woodwork for my stalled Mk II Daimler, Mk 3 and L4A4 cosmetic rebuilds. There's even a Owen foregrip waiting for converting into a early Malayan Emergency style front grip that fitted onto the front mounting pin rather than the official sort that Peter replicated and showed us at Warminster.

Any road I better pull my finger out and get than swapped on!

Anyhow there is also the officialy sanctioned way of overcoming this problem which you mentioned earlier for the L4.
The drawing states it is also for 303 Brens.

I did indeed say that KG! 10/10 for observation. BUT they weren't available where we went - nor were Mk2 grips either! The bolts WERE readily available from a commercial fastening suppliers in length, finish and diameter. But, alas, not in BSF thread which would have entailed getting overlength, cutting and rethreading to suit! It all goes to help future budding LMG owners and builders come to a decision that suits them in the spirit of learning and the true meaning of the forum

I've been told about this in Canada too. Coincidentally, I have a lot of small stock blank ends/waste that need a home. I could pretty easily run a batch of either style off.

....if you decide to run Mk II grips, you can consider a few sold already. No need to spend the time with final finish, either.

Are you in the butt-making/woodwork business then Flying Pig?

Just starting out Peter, on a hobby level. I've done a dozen or so Ross stocks now and am learning a lot in a hurry.

I take it the outside profile of the MkI and MkII grips is basically identical? When I get time I will pull the grip off my Bren and see if I can make a master copy in walnut and then get it in the duplicator. If there is a market for these and I can keep their unit price low then it will save me from burning a lot of scrap walnut.
