Sling

I ended up ordering a Krag sling from S and S firearms, and put it on tonight. Looks pretty good...not to shabby...

I found it a little strange that there was a part of the sling where they sewed two ends together...almost like they were two seperate pieces and the sewed them together to make one. Can anyone confirm that that is how they were originally? Below is a pic

My original RIA sling is two pieces sewn together, the ends are skived or tapered and sewn with straight parallel rows of stitches.

The 'splice' is correct on the 66 1/2" model-1887 slings. IIRC - The 1887 sling was made by piecing together surplus U. S. Civil War slings.

My sling is the later double hook type.

Although the leather may have come from 're-cycled' C.W. slings, the model-1887 sling has one riveted brass fitting with two long 'hooks'. (Not the single central 'hook' used during C.W.). The other end is anchored with a brass double-headed 'button'.
