Just how easy is it to remove the flash hider from an L1A1? Mine has no key and pin, it is merely screwed on. Will I need to engage the services of King Kong to turn the flash hider?
I can't understand how an L1A1 rifle hasn't got a key and pin. Every one of the zillions I ever saw DID have a key and pin! Is it just missing or has the key thinggy been machined off? To be honest, you don't need a pin and key if you use green loktite as per the L85 and 86.
Need that answer before we can give you the answer.
LuxDefTec who stuck on a new barrel told me in a email that the flash hider is simply screwed on. No mention of loc tite or such stuff. However if they have used loktite, how do I remove that?Quote:

Thanks for that, I actually have the armourers tool for the job. I presume it is unscrewed anti clockwise as seen from the front end. As for heating would 10 rds rapid also do the job, I don't have a blow torch?Quote:

On the British & Commonwealth L1A1 Rifles. The Flash Hider ALSO has 1 of 13 differing sizes of spacing washer fitted as well. They ARE marked with Number 0-12 on the side.
These ensure a degree on 'Under turn' when screwed up tight by HAND. To approx. the 11' O' Clock position. & tighten up to vertical with the spanner/Tool. Fit locating key/washer & retaining pin.

It is VERY easy to make up a Tool to undo/fit the Flash Hiders. If you gate a bar of steel.
approx. 10" long x 1.75" wide x .05" Thick. Drill a hole near one end the diameter of the Flash Hider. Then file a small square the width of the Bayonet lug. In the hole, at the end that is LONGEST on the Bar of Steel. It will look like a large 'Key Hole' when completed. :thup:
Round off each End & smooth the edges for comfort in use. There you go! & 'Spanner' that will undo your Flash Hider! :cheers:
If you want to get 'Flash'. Drill a Hole at the 'Handle' end to hang it up. & finish by Bluing/Parkerising for a Nice Finish. :dancingbanana:
