That big long rear staking, I've got a Saginaw and early QHMC with the same staking. Anyone with insight? Is it a home job or factory?
I have never seen Staked Markings that looked like that on All the Carbines I've seen. When I saw it it to me I figured someone took off the Rear Sight that's was Staked on it and then added another one then Re Staked it again. But that's my Opinion. I have seen some crude ones, but nothing like this.

Don't believe I have ever seen staking like that ? I have several NPM carbines none even come close .,.
It's a hot round proof marking, I believe. Proof that a hot load was fired from it.
Tenoc, Would this mean for All Carbines that have been fired with a Hot Load or just NPM did it ? Thank You.
I went through some past post here and other Forums and only Searched for NPM Punch Marks . I found a Reply that said NPM Barrels had a Punch Mark with a P. Also said there will be a Punch mark by the Dovetail. So that info that Tenoc just wrote might be Correct about a Hot Load has been through it. I don't know if other M1 Carbine Manufacturer each have Punch marks. My other 2 Carbines I keep here didn't have one. The rest of my Carbines I will check them when I go to my Parents Home as I use my Late Fathers Safe to store the rest. I just would like to know after someone mentioned that NPM had them for there Carbines when I was looking at other places. The Lug on the Bolt on my NPM is it a Mark or a Hole. I couldn't find another mark or hole for it's use.

Here's a couple pictures of an NPM that show somewhat similar stake marks. I've never seen a carbine that didn't have the "proof test" punch mark on the receiver. It was required for acceptance by the government. Those never accepted such as presentation carbines wouldn't necessarily have been required to have undergone proof testing with a high pressure round. - Bob
