Star Super B in 9mm

The neighbor had to cut down their Japanese maple tree so I grabbed a stash.
The figure is beautiful and it's a very hard wood so I decided all my toys would get a pair of going out stocks. Started with the Super B because it was 5ft away when I had the idea.
One mess up is the angle up top as you can see but the grip doesn't rub the slide and they're oiled up so I'm leaving it. Should have screwed them on when fitting instead of holding them. I know better but ........

Thanks. To make the grips from a squared up slab took about two hours.

Very nice, looks like a great cut of wood. Going to checker them? How many grips do you get out of a cut of wood like that?

I will checker them eventually, I have a bunch of pairs for different guns to make first then I'll do' em all at one time.
It depends on the figure in the chunk but I'm getting about 3 to 5 good useable blanks per, but maybe 1 REALLY nice blank out of 3 chunks. The bummer is those guys were cutting a tree down and could care less about where or how they cut and they cut right into some sweet figure that's useless now. On top of that I only have a 6" bandsaw so I'm halving these bad boys with a chainsaw and that ain't pretty as you can see by the chunk I took a pic of. It's all worth the effort though because you simply can not buy Japanese maple.

Thanks. Would love to see the Ruger grips mounted.

Will do, just waiting for the ferrules to show up from Brownells.

Here's the grips mounted. Ruger Security Six in .357
I would have some 1911 grips to show but the wood bowed in the time it took to eat diner. I think they still had moisture and the pieces where very thin at that point so it cooked them. Have to start over......
