The light-ish colour possibly indicates faster-growing plantation timber.
"Wild" teak tends to be darker and VERY close-grained, thus dense and HEAVY, and, a lot harder to work with hand tools.

Some pics of my Teak stocked 1945 M A No 1 MkIII, I was advised to keep an eye on that knot which I have been doing no probs yet. It is a bit heavier than when it was in the standard stock.
