I'd guess it's a Danish issue rifle. Possibly purchased from the CMP in years past. Check the small parts as there may be Italian PB, and BMB marked parts mixed in. It could also have an excellent Danish replacement barrel installed. Nice rifle.

If it a Danish M1, it should have a label in the stock channel like this.

I agree with Brian if it's the full serial number then it's Danish and not all had the tags as shown.
I'm still not sure what you mean by VAR stamp but I gots pics :)

He meant the barrel stamp, the one that shows it was made in '49. Not a VAR marking.

I think he did mean VAR to signify a Danish-made replacement barrel Attachment 74955
