Tabs were to sew the sheath down. Trousers had pockets or straps added to hold the knife sheath on the seam of trouser leg.
cinders, has your F.S. knife got any kind of markings on the handle such as cross keys. If memory serves me correctly, it was suggested to me that the knives with no markings on the handle were possibly/likely to have been privately purchased knives.
U K ~ Has ENGLAND on the cross piece on the handle side and up the top pommel on the side it has a 1 that lies in the same plane as the handle no other markings. One thing I do notice about the knife is it's incredibly sharp point.
I also have this little 1st edition gem to accompany the S F knife which are getting rather scarce now, the original owner of the book being Flt/Sgt Henthorne.
I did have some peace and quiet around the place, so whipped them out......... Some are going to a collector one is for sure, its been the pride of the pack a Hookie marked to the 4th Battalion Manchester Regiment, but its going to a very good home ........ the money goes straight to the L42 fund (all donations welcome)Quote:

I will be keeping the Vickers (like you say they are the rarest) and Mole 1907's and one of the hookie's, a few 1903's and 1888's and some of the modern stuff, also one of the owen SMG only because they were used with the sniper rifle.
Its a vicious circle collecting military items and Firearms as I picked up a few another No36 Mils Bomb plus a No5 at the War and Peace really nice condition, just need a No23 and ........ were does it stop ?
I nearly bought a Sykes Fairbairn knife some time back but I really didn't know anything about them although the price was or seemed reasonable..... it would of been a gamble.

I have a show to go to in 10 days mainly for ordnance and WWI Australian 1st Ed H/C's books a hooky would be nice but they will want $1.2K for one and I do not have that sort of funds in my wallet I could try the minister for war & finance but the answer will be like when I tried to sneak a 1921 Lithgow MkIII under the radar funny how they can read bank statements I will have to talk to the person whom taught wives to do that..........
