well guys i feel kind of down over this. the m-1 i have has a type 1 rear site and the rest of the parts are correct. yes it is not the stock that came with it and the one you see was bought as real from what i was told in the late 80's. sure there are crooks out there and i dont want to sell the garand or break it up for parts. it is just the stock that kills it. where do you find one now at this time?? in any event- thanks for the input.:thup::bow:
RickB-- Thanks for pointing out the M. It is so obvious now. The "V" part of the M should extend below the center horizontal line in the E and it clearly doesn't.
Hi, folks. I am new to this forum, but have been following this thread about the SA/EMcF cartouche. I too am looking for the real deal and am aware that there are a lot of counterfeits out there. Would you guys mind giving me your evaluation and opinion of the authenticity of the following marks? Thanks, I appreciate it! Bob Betette.
Without more detailed up close photos it's hard to say but my opinion is they are both fake.
I would be suspicious of ANY cartouched stock, no matter what the cartouches are on the stock. I would pass on any stock UNLESS I really knew that the stock was genuine and attested to by the seller.
Several years ago I had a Reinhart ***in M1 stock that I had marked with the SA/EMcF cartouche. It was a reproduction all the way. Granted the cartouche "dressed-up" the rifle, but I wasn't satisfied and the stock set was just not USGI. I bought USGI Handguards and a original USGI stock from Doug's Stockpile and restocked the rifle.
I managed to sell the stock set at cost on eBay and made sure of listing in the auction that the stock set was a reproduction set. The buyer who bought the set tried to accuse me of not indicating that the set was reproduction, when I clearly indicated such in the auction. I wasn't trying to "scam" anyone, but the new owner(s) could potentially "pass off" the stock as genuine. Too many unscrupulous people out there.

I have not been around for awhile but that one is not even a good fake IMHO :move eek:
