It's interesting that the U.K. and Canada had a slightly different approach to sending P.O.W. home.
I think that quite a few of the German P.O.W.s in the U.K. were working especially, in farming. Perhaps this was one of the reasons?
It was the same here for the greatest part. The detention camps were all in remote(for the most part) areas that were surrounded by rural open area, some were logging areas though. A farmer could go and sign for a number of men and hold them for a period of time, was given rations for them and employ them. The people became used to them, seeing them and so forth. Government policy would have nothing to do with reality though. Didn't matter though, many returned as soon as possible...
