The ones that were stationed with Ferrets at Bessbrook in the early days, were sound vehicles for use in culvert searches. Not sure how long they would have lasted in a 500lb COOP mix underneath them though.
The ones there 30mm Rardens from memory, albeit the true Alvis fit was a 76mm L5A1. Two M1919A4 machine guns, which were effective in open territory, hence why they were moved from Belfast/Londonderry to the border.
It was replaced by the FV101 Scorpion light tank, which chopped off more heads then you could shake a stick at, when the track pins came out I remember......perhaps one of the REME lads will fill in the gaps. I see to think it only happened in BAOR on road use at speed.
