Testing the Ariel. Need adjustment!!

Luis sounds ok, just before you start to adjust, do the basics on setting the timing and points etc, if your tick over is erratic up and down etc, your carb is probably pulling air where its not meant to, often a replacement slide will or can cure it. There is a company that produces copies of the Amal Carburettor, also the bits are available for Amal, but for the price of bits you can get a new copies of the carb.
Once all is done its just getting used to the advance and retard.
Yes Big Duke, the carb need a checking, also another part like the rear stand.
Now i thinking about the correct olibe drab paint i need to paint the bike...
The Bren tripod i have seems to be the correct olibe drab i need to paint, what do you thing ? Is an example to take?

Luis,
Three colours used for vehicles during WW2 where Khaki, beginning of the War, Service brown (SCC No2) which was mid 1942 - April 1944 and then Olive Drab, obvious even well after the dates the previous colour was still applied until stocks run out and new colour was in stock.
Your bike would of been Service brown or possibly olive drab. I got my paint from a local vehicle paint shop Service Brown is BS 499 and Olive Drab is BS 298. , keeping with tradition I went for oil paint (Matt)
The Tank on my Matchless is done in Service Brown which is what the whole bike will be done in, you can't really tell on the pic but the next pic you can see the different shades of Green it has
gone through.
I had completed the Tank and had to put it back on the Bike for an inspection to enable it to get registered, the wires out the Battery box are just for show,

Amazing your Matchless G3/L !!:dancingbanana:
Year?
Thanks for the photos to compare colors!
I like green more than brown ...
Hard choise!
Will it be easy for you to make a drawing with measurements of the panniers frame, and in that way I can reproduce them?
Thanks in advance!
Luis, Its a 1943, all in bits now and in all four corners of my workshop, frame is all ready for top coat of paint, Engine is ready to rebuild, away at work at present but will dig pannier farme out when home.
My Frame is different I think as it locks in place without the wing nuts.
Some parts i buy in UK to put in my Ariel
The last months I have used them to build brake shoes, since it was impossible to get the originals.
A lot of adjustment work, trial and error, since it did not have original shoes from which to take measurements.
The images speak for themselves. It is difficult for me to explain technical concepts in English

I also had to reproduce the brake cam....
Thats outstanding work Luis , but I'm surprised you can't get any though.... am sure you get them here in the UK, as the Ariel never really changed much over the years like the other big makes.
If you give the dimensions of the hub can have a look or try a few folk I know.
Strange the subject is brakes as I,m trying to get some sort of brake on the AJS........ cleaned it all today and would say I now have 20% at the front, I,ve had plenty of bikes with shoes up front but these are diabolical.
Hello Bigduke!
Six months searching 6 1/2 inch brake shoes on ebay and writing ads in all forums and social networks about Ariels.
On the other hand, the economy of my country is not enjoying good health, and purchases abroad at the current exchange rate are extremely expensive.
What will happen that with Tapatak, all the photographs of the process are seen, and on the web page, all are not seen?
