Well, I removed the front sight protector (it was bent, anyway) and, as m1903rifle correctly stated, my rifle has a Lyman front sight blade inserted in the stock SA front sight base.

I finally got around to taking some photos of my rifle's front sight with its protector removed. As you can see, it is a Lyman 26 NS blade with gold bead and its base does have the alignment mark in it. Thank you again for the information and photos you provided!Quote:
