Without getting political, many countries in the EU would be better off out of the Euro (at least), with their own currency and crucially being able to set their own interest rates and not being forced to use a rate that suits Germany and France.
Could become a tricky thread...
I just think that the EU should be a weak overstate co-ordinating some crucial topics among the States (defense, confederate taxes, international politics).
All the rest should be the single states’ business.
In a few words, a Confederation of strong states with an upper, weak and neutral guide.
The current beaurocracy (not elected) has tranformed the EU in the Soviet Union of Europe, where slowly but steadily, also the freedom of speech is being reduced.
It is a nightmare slowly coming true.
It is a great pity, because the initial idea was extremely sensible and could (should) have evolved in the most wonderful continent in which to live. As free people.
That said, I’ll restrain from any other political topic, because they are too divisive and misunderstandings are as easy as fresh water (literal translation of one of our sayings).

That's what I was thinking Mate. Italy is essentially bankrupt for the second time around (at least for the second time). I've often wondered why the economically strong EU countries stay when they have to rescue countries like Italy, Greece and Spain that choke on their own debt. After all, it's not like they are ever going to reciprocate is it?Quote:

Coming back to the point, one thing Europe should have done at the very start, was to ensure a "static" gun rule/law for every country in the member states which could not be affected by events such as happened in the UK.

A BBC documentary team who drove across the channel a couple of years ago placed a deactivated pistol on the dashboard, and noone at the Passport control or on its journey throughout the crossing saw it. So imagine just how many are smuggled in?
I don't want to start a political theme here, because it is against our constitution, but control and common sense laws are made by lobbyists such as the NRA/BASC and other groups who have an active interest in shooting who advise Governments, so it does not impinge on their day to day workings as farmers or target shooters involved in sport.
What we have seen here specifically in the UK, is I'm afraid knee jerk reactions to certain sad incidents, such as Dunblane and Hungerford. These were "sensible" people in receipt of the correct authorisation and approvals that did these terrible acts. How do you legislate for the human brain that can snap at anytime!
I have seen so many beautiful weapons crushed , and laws brought in to control rediculously, weapons that would have been better off crushed completely or otlawed, and I use my recent experience of the L1A1 as a good example. What an absolute nightmare making that a straight pull weapon! They then leave other weapons still out there untouched...........no logic in it at all I'm afraid, and when I look around Europe, like America, every State or country has a different interpretation to it all.
Maybe its me with a simplistic view point, and people would no doubt say I am biased because I love shooting sniper rifles, or because I am ex Army or Police, and why would you want a sniper rifle anyway. Good point and the answer has to be, because I can I suppose, at the moment, but one has to hope, coming back to the point, when we do eventually come out next year from the EU, lobbyists will look freshly at the nightmare that has befallen this country on all aspects of weaponry and shooting, and look at it sensibly with tighter controls in place once we have our border controls back in place, without any European interference on what we do here. There's a hope anyway!!
I don't expect that leaving the EU will help British shooting enthusiast's. The knee jerk reaction's of gouvernment after Dunblane will not be undone easily.
As a Brit' living in Europe I'm sure we have more freedom of choice and less restrictive rules on firearm ownership here. Rule changes in France in 2013 actually made it easier for military (bolt action) rifle ownership
There has been a major increase in membership at gun club's over the last few years. Which can only help protect what we have.
What may get more complicated after Brexit is importing part's from the UK for my Lee Enfield's.
That is good to hear, good old France, perhaps sensible legislatures who are Politicians and shooters as well might help us, but don't hold your breath. All bolt action should be relatively easy to own, as well as "vintage" semi auto too.

Laws are only effective IF they are obeyed. After all, murder is against the law whether one uses a firearm, a knife, motor vehicle, golf club or a cricket bat. Yet, murders occur everyday, and in every country around the globe.
I'll shut up, get off my soap box and go away quietly now.
