Matt,
What finish does the stacking swivel and band have? Some of the late S-C rifles had a blued band with phosphate swivel, and are factory staked.
Thanks! Actually I didn't actually go to a live auction, it was just on auctionarms, but ended midweek so I don't think it got as many bites. It ended at $676. I'd like to go to a nice estate sale sometime but haven't been to one yet.
I took a pic of the area, I think it's like you say.
Z,
Man don't dare install a front sight cover on that beautiful rifle. It will scratch the cr$p out of the front sight band. Get one yea, don't put it on.
Thanks for the photos. You are one lucky dawg.

Back in the late 80's, I went to an auction that had advertised in a local penny saver paper that a .30-06 military rifle was being auctioned. I rushed to the auction, but missed the time before the auction when you could inspect what was being auctioned. During the auction, they brought out an 03-A3, but I was too far away to tell anything other than that. I bought that rifle, and was extremely pleased to find out I had an unissued, still in cosmoline Smith-Corona, just like the one pictured above. I removed the cosmoline from the bolt, but it remains in the bore and is to this day unfired (except for it's initial proof firing).
