mbarrad - I enjoyed all the above posts, so thanks for starting the thread. Your 1896 Krag is identical in appearance to the one I've owned for 25 years. I was only missing the muzzle cover until just yesterday; stumbled onto one listed on auction and hit the B.I.N. I liked all the photos so well I decided to do a similar study and post it in the next few months. Regards.

As a regular reader of this forum, I have learned a lot from you and respect your opinions. Also, I certainly appreciate and agree with you concerning the respect due our flag. However, I for one (and maybe the only one) see no disrespect when it is used in a display such as this. Now if the original poster were photographing his rifle with the flag in order to sell it, then I would have a problem. All the items in the photos were used to defend that flag and what it stands for, so I think it is fitting. I have also photographed a couple of WWII milsurps on a 48 star flag that was used to drape the coffin of a friend's father who fought in that war (see my avatar). I figured since he defended our nation with those rifles then he wouldn't mind.
I think one must consider the context when applying the rules you quote. For example, the rule stating that the flag must NEVER touch anything beneath it. Who would object when the flag is draped over a the coffin of a fallen patriot? Also, the flag should never be used as wearing apparel or worn on clothing, but when displayed on the sleeve of our men and women in combat it is of course no problem. I say it again...consider the context.
By the way...very nice Krag!
