Mew member: looking for help with my recently acquired Savage No4Mk1T

I can't say enough good things about the bracket I got from Roger last year. It's hard to take pictures through the scope, but here are some before and after shots showing my less-telescope Savage with a reproduction No.32 Mk I scope (of unknown origin) mounted first in the bracket that came with the scope and then in Roger's bracket. In both cases, the rifle is bore sighted to the dotted square on the test target and the scope is optically centered very close to the middle of its adjustment range.

As you can see, with the first bracket the post was not only canted but also shifted so far left that it would have taken all the windage clicks just to bring it back to center.

With Roger's bracket, everything is damn near spot on. I can't comment on the quality of the scope since I don't have an original to compare against, but thanks to Roger at least it's pointed in the same direction as the barrel!

HKPB, So where does one find a copy of the test target you show in your pictures? I don't think I have seen that before.

So I have it saved as a Word file for ease of printing but I think I originally found it reproduced in a PDF called "MOUNTING THE RED STAR MOUNTAIN REPRODUCTION OF THE BRITISH No 32 RIFLESCOPE" by Dennis La Varénne. RSM has a copy on their website here. Look for the "m2.pdf" download.

If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll post my Word version here.

You should try to obtain one of Roger's brackets. If that doesn't work out a careful inspection can and normally will show what needs to happen to get on target.

It has been some time but I recall one instance having to sink the spigot hole .060" for a shooting friend who was using a BUSHNELL 1" scope

Now I'm not an expert on anything but it made sense that the manufacture had left the fitting undone to allow the end user to fit everything to their rife set.

Also with Roger's bracket you will be owning a bit of history in it's own right.
