That's an M8 Greyhound turret. The muzzle brake looks fake.

Chasing a Tank in San Diego (Worlds Scariest Police Chases, 1997 - 2002) - YouTube
Seems like paint on the vision blocks and teargas inside would have solved the problem the moment it stopped.
Well, you shoulda been there...you coulda been a hero while everyone else cowered. NOT!
You're pretty funny.
I guess you weren't aware of it when it happened, we that watched it know the "Tear-gas inside" simplicity was a non starter. It was closed up tight and if you've ever operated around tanks...which I have, you want nothing to do with climbing onto a hostile moving tank. I wouldn't even consider approaching the front where the driver's periscopes are. They waited until he'd crossed a traffic divider and then dug in the top hatch and shot him. They wasted no time. The damage he did during his run was not surprising for those that have seen these giants work.
Did say when it stopped.
Or my late grandfather's solution for stopping a tank "thrusting a shovel into the tracks".
I believe that my grandfather had "learnt the practice" or got the idea of "inserting a shovel" into a tank's tracks while serving in the Home Guard during WW2. I can't see it ever working but it would be interesting to know if it was ever accomplished even if under test conditions.
