Bob-- I believe sun (pith) helmets were standard issue for ground forces in administrative tropical environments. I remember my father wearing them in Panama in the mid to late 50's.

Thanks. My dad got his hands on one of those fiber helmets in the 1950s and we used it on expeditions for a couple of decades.Quote:
