I worked with a guy who used one in Nam... he was in a tree scanning across a paddy when BANG, a round hit the IR projector and knocked him out of the tree! Evidently the Charlie across the way had a Russian Dragunov with an IR detector. Fortunately, the dope shot at the light source instead of slightly low and right (from his point of view) so missed the shooter.... who never used it again.

When I was just starting out in the army and first arrived here in Victoria there was a gunstore with an M3 complete on hooks in an out of the way spot. I think at the time they wanted $3000CDN for it. I think the powerpack was missing parts too. I knew then what it was and only had a mild curiosity towards it. I suppose at the time of initial issue it was wonderful but soon it was just cumbersome.
