I'm not sure what was on my 2A1 when I go it, but it was peeling off and leaving bare metal beneath it. This is the only gun i have ever had bead blasted and then reblued (I know, it wiped out the collector value) since I couldn't save any of the finish. The rifle turned out beautifully and since my 1917 No 1 Mk III is all matching and I don't want to shoot it, I now have a similar rifle that shoots 7.62x51 that I will be able to shoot for many years to come.
