Yeah....well, I'm probably one of the reasons the stuff is illegal in NCAA and most high school football! We used to slather the crap on with a trowel....if I could get a hand on you, you weren't getting away even if it pulled my shoulder out of it's socket!
FWIW, in my experience, Firm Grip tends to get runny and down-right slick when it gets hot....most shooting "Stick'um doesn't!

Sounds like you used the stuff that came as a paste in a jar. Haven't seen it packaged that way in a few decades. I never had any "runny" problems with the stuff from the spray cans, including many matches in 100-degree-plus heat at Quantico.

Yep....that was the stuff! As for Stick'um in general.....haven't needed any since I quit shootin' .30 cals, so my data is out-of-date!

I used that stuff all over except for my face.
On my jeans to boots.
pistol grip, prevents doubles m-14
elbows to mat
glove to rifle
butt plate to shoulder/ prevents slipping and vertical strings
offhand supporting arm to jacket.
elbow to knee in sitting both arms.
make everything solid as a rock.
