Gentlemen, it appears I have been remiss in introducing myself to this fine community. I have been collecting for about 20 years (difficult to say exactly when collecting starts, isn't it). My father was himself a collector, so I have grown up in that environment. I have thus developped a great enthusiasm for small arms, history, and of course for firearms collecting. My collection spawns from the first breach loaders to the immediate post WWII years, with a few orphans here and there. I joined this forum after reading about it in Gunnutz. I greatly appreciate all the knowledge that is tranferred through the various posts and find this sort of resource invaluable.

First post of introduction, I found this site whilst searching for info on No4 Mk1 (T) sniper rifles. (which I'm seriously trying to buy a nice matching numbered complete example, hint hint:))

I've been interested in militaria for around 25 years, and have been a active member of the Ballarat Arms and Militaria Society in Victoria, Australia for over 10 years. in this time I have managed to put together a modest collection of WWI and WWII memorabelia.

Including:
Uniforms
Medals etc
Weapons (edged and firearms)
photos
relics
etc etc.

My pride and joy is a 1916 Enfield No1 Mk3 with full matching numbers etc and beuatiful stamped butt stock showing her full history. still has the original pull through and brass oil bottle in place. I bought it off a friend of my grandfather who somehow managed to snaffle it when he left the army in 46. also has a pattern 07 1918 Wilkinson sword bayonet to go with it. Its unusual as it has had windage adjustable rear sites fitted to it between the wars.
This goes very well with my Savage Stevens Mk1 No4 rifle issued to Canada 1941 and then subsiquently New Zealand.

another rifle that I place high value in is a 1939 ariska that was captured in New Guinea in 1944 by Sgt Norm strange Military Medal 8th Btln AIF, who led a small platoon in an action against an improvised Japanese bunker and in the insuing fire fight which ended with the use of a flame thrower and subsiquent capture of the rifle.
I have a signed letter from Norm stating the circumstances of the action and how he came to be in posestion of the weapon. see attached pictures.

anyway, I'm glad I found the site, and hope to put in as much as I get out.

As far as locating hard to find pieces, why not run a standing WTB (Want to Buy) advertisement in the Quartermaster Stores (click here).

You never know, maybe you'll stumble across another member about to put one up for sale who sees your ad and checks with you first. If you use some of your "Free" credits you can even make it a "Featured Ad" so that you get maximum exposure.

One piece of advice. If you do put up an ad, locate a pic of a No.4(T) and use it in your ad to show people what you're looking for. If you can't find one, we can help you with that. It's also an "eye grabber" that helps motivate people to read your ad further, as opposed to an ad that's just bland text.

I currently have a Polish M44, Swiss K31, sporterized M1917 (passed down from my grandfather), and several other hunting rifles and shotguns. I am interested in acquiring a LB No. 4 and looking to getting into the re-enactment thing.

New member...I'm a history & American Studies double major at Georgetown College in Kentucky and plan on going to law school. I've been collecting for about six years now and own a Yugoslav M-48, No. 5 Enfield, No. 4 Enfield, No. I Mk. III Enfield, Mosin Nagant 91/30, M1 Garand, MAS 49/56, Smith & Wesson Victory Model, Walther P-1 and a handful of civilian arms. I use this same tag on gunboards.com.

I've been collecting milsurp for about 12 years.I get the most satisfaction from picking up a beater or a bubba'd rifle and restoring to original service condition.I recently bought a small 8'' lathe and am teaching myself to operate it.I have also started to scratch the surface of reloading the [hard to find ammo] that I shoot.Most of my collection consists of enfields,mosin nagants and affordable military semi autos.I have learned a couple of tricks over the years and would like to share with other collectors as well as gain new knowledge.

I collect all types of firearms, knives etc.
I have a Remington A3-03 a Jap Arisaka a 1895 Steyr straight pull a chopped stock 303 P14? and a 1903 65x54 Krag.
The A3-03 and the Steyr 1895 are both in mint condition.
I also have a Japanese officer's sword.
In my spare time I make knives and shoot Sharps rifles.

Not posted yet, sitting watching. Member of CGN, main interest is Milsurps and Cowboy Action, thus my ID, other wise would be 303Brit. My core collection is Lee Enfield, the No 1. Rifle to me, but I have a good example from all the main combatants of WWI & II, enjoy my black rifles a well.

I'm a new member to this site, however I am an active member with CGN. As you can see by my handle I'm into Milsurps and own a nice Winchester model 1897 built for trench warfare in 1916. I take her out for a ride once in awhile. I don't even know what she's worth and I don't care. I rub her down once and a while and put her lovingly in her oily smelling locker till the next time.

I also own a few rifles, a Model 1917 Remington, an Israeli Mauser and an all matching Savage 42 Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1 * Fazakarly Thorough repair and a lovely 1911 .455 Colt which I';d love to return to it's original state as it was converted to .45.

Anyway glad to be here, I see a few names from CGN so I hope to learn a few things from you folks. I'm from Ontario north of the big ugly Liberal Smoke.

Newjack here! I got into the oldies a couple years ago with the CMP M1's. Since then I've picked up a 1903, 03A3, and just recently a RC K98k from JP Suhl made in 1939. Don't flame me but I stripped the russian shellac off. One of these days I need to find a replacement stock for my first milsurp, the sporterized carcano in 7.35mm that my dad bought at woolworth's for $10.

I am a new member, also from Canadian Gun Nutz, I have accessed this site many times but it was not until know that I say Hi to all. I have a number of milsurps nothing special. I have 1 Yugo SKS, 1 Springfield M14, 1 Norc M14, 1 M1 Carbine, 1 mosin 91/30, 3 #1 Mk4 LE, 3 #1 MK 3 LE, 1 #5 LE and a host of other non military things. I am still looking for a Garand to add to the set.

I mainly collect militaria from WW1 (incl. weapons). So far I have;
Eddystone M1917 - SMLE Nr.1 MkIII - M1886/93 'Lebel' - Gew.98 - Kar.98AZ -
Colt M1911 - Webley Mk.VI - M1892. I'm looking for a C96 to complete the
picture.
From my 'old' WW2-collection I still have a Kongsberg M1914, a Garand and
a M1911A1. The last 2 are the only ones I take to the shooting range.

I'm a 70 years young retired Geologist. I collect Japanese militaria, primarily rifles, bought my first in 1949. Have authored, co-authored several books on Arisakas, one on the Type 99 Arisaka, 2nd edition, is at publishers.

Currently working on manuscript on foreign rifles used by the Japanese in the Post Perry - Pre Murata, 1853-1869 period. Could use photos of any Japanese-marked early, non-Japanese, rifles in your collections.

I congratulate the board for having Ronin 48 on board as a member. A m an of vast knowledge about out hobby and a very good friend of mine. Also the man who has almost broke me by dangling rifles in front of me to buy that I just could not resist. Glad you are here. riceone.

Just wanted to say hello. I am a retired police officer and a new member. I have been shooting 1000 yd benchrest at Hawks Ridge gun club in North Carolina for 5 years. I have 3 milsurp rifles that I've recently aquired, two were given to me. I have a vz24, 93 Spanish 7mm Mauser(1901 manufacture) and my baby an almost pristine no4 mk1. I'm still learning about these guns and I'm sure I'll have many questions from time to time. Again hello and I'm glad to be here.

I am new to this forum. I was looking for a No. 32 scope. Eventually I plan on putting together a No. 4 MKI (t) Rifle (originals are a bit pricey). My collection is modest, both long guns and hand guns. fixed ammunition and black powder. my interest is mainly military firearms, although I have non-military. Some hard to find, others common. Right now I have collected a few sniper rifles: m41B Swedish Mauser, original M1D (DCM), M1C (not original, athough scope is), M1D, mount and scope orginal and Mosin Nagants; Pu and PE scoped versions, etc. I could go on, but don't want to bore you. Anyway, ran across this site and decided to join. Looks very interesting. Thank you for your time.:)

I have collected 300+ rifles, shotguns and handguns. I have only a general understanding of the oldies and look forward to learning a lot more about them on this forum.

My oldest gun is a Tower musket. It is like a Tower rifle, but has no rifling. maybe a trade gun?

My nicest piece is a German double barrel rifle made in the 1920s. A 8x60R toped with a Zeis scope in a claw mount.

My heaviest piece is Lithgow Bren MkII.

My funnest shooter is a Garand. I like the sights.

My problem at the moment is a PPSh41 that won't burp. I suspect a mag problem or an ammo problem. Have both mags and Have not tried one of them.

I have delveloped loads for many of my guns and have kept good records. I have some expertise in the loading business. At one time I was buying bullets by the one ton skid (about 40,000 bullets) and buying powder by the pickup truck load (1,300 pounds).

I have been a long time gun nut. I started shooting and reloading in the 70's but due to military commitments I had to cut short my involvement. Now I'm back and stronger than ever. I have a mauser yugo m48,t-99 Jap shooter and several others thats not milsurp but am working on it. Hope to add a Siamese Mauser (pristine,with numbers and bayonet) in the near future. I like to reload my own ammo instead of buying. I find it more interesting than just purchasing.I've found so much information on forums that it's cut down buying so many books. I'm sure with collector wisdom on line like you that I will have less trouble making my decisions.:beerchug:

I'm Clammy. I came over form CGN. I am not a collector, but I have an avid interest in military firearms, specifically of WWII vintage. Currently, in the "Milsurp" category, I own a 1943 P-08 Luger (sadly with a replaced barrel to make in non-prohibited) , a nazi Browning Hi-Power, Yugoslavian M-59 SKS, and a couple of military style rifles: VZ-58S and Colt AR-15 SP1. You see where my interest lie, hehehe... in the future, I'm hoping to add a WWII vintage Garand (preferrably Springfield Armory), a German K98 with nazi markings intact, WWII era 1911-A1 (preferrably Colt or Remington Rand), and even though it's not a real milsurp, a BD-38 (newly manufactured semi-auto only copy of the MP-38).

I live in a small, Alaskan bush village. I subsitance hunt and fish and help my wife raise our two daughters and five sons. I am the water plant operator.

Yes I am a collector. I started out just to get a beater moose hunting gun and got a nice blued Win. Model of 1917. (It REALLY likes Federal 220 gr)

Last December I got an Ishy 2A, that is still getting cleaned up, and nicely. A couple months later I got a 1943 BSA No.4Mk1, two months later I got a 1942 Maltby No4Mk1 w/a nice two groove barrel, about two months after the Maltby I got a UF55 No.4Mk2 and then two weeks ago I got a Longbranch No.4Mk1/3. I'll pass them on to my kids when thay are old enough.;)

I am going to concentrate on shooting and reloading now.:)

am ex RCAF and love hunting and shooting any and everything:) I have a very unique M1 carbine redone into what is call a 5.7 Johnson and my dad's old 303.

I am from Pennsylvania and have wandered north of the border to find info on the Ross Rifle. I picked up a 1905 Mk ll at a local gun show ( stock cut down but otherwise intact ) and enjoy shooting it. I would like to restore it and the search for wood begins.

I am a new member and desided to join in hopes that I can find informatiom on my Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk1 Rifle.

Specifically, does anyone know if a scope mount is make for this rifle that does not require removal of the rear site and will allow the bolt to be removed without removing the scope mount.

If so, please provide information on where I can buy it.

Hi folks The name is Paul I'm new and going to collect bolt action milsurps.Most of the stuff out of the 18th,19th century is too expensive.I've found out that the bolt action rifle goes back to the mid to late 19th century,and I have a lot of choices.I have the M1917,Mosin,and Steyr.Can any of you guys give me any advice,or recommendations?I do want a krag,but cannot find one. Hi everyone. I'm new to the Milsurpls forum. :) Can also be found on CGN under the same username. Been in the shooting sports for about 20 years now and just starting to get the bug again after a 10 years absence. Only have one milsurp at the moment. At least I think it is classified as a milsurp but could be wrong. It's a Czech 52/57 in 7.62x39. Never issued. Hope to get a nice Mauser K98 in the future when money permits. :super:

Yes, am infected with the SMLE virus, bit like Ross River fever.

Am keen to bring back to Oz our illustrious SMLE offspring, so, anyone out there with Lithgow built complete rifles or parts (including barrels) at the right price let me know. Don't be put off thinking you cannot export to Australia - you can if you know about the right paperwork dances.

Have a wealth of old hand knowledge, some revised because of new materials, some just the same as were first developed in the field but almost lost in the dim minds of time. Here is an example...

Idea# 047:
Came from WWI vet, using a french letter instead of the sandwich bag. Apparently early frangers were reuseable and so were a lot thicker than those of today's manufacture. Think he said they used vegtable oil as this did not attack the rubber so much, but today the gun oil and plastic bag seem fine.

1. Get a clip-lock sandwich bag, put only two or three drops of lubricating gun oil into it.
2. Smidgy it around to spread a thin film on the inside of the bag.
3. Clip seal and put in your bolt box.
Next time out on the range, or leaving on a day's hunt...
4. Insert the bolt into the bag and rub sandwich bag a few time to impart the smallest amount of oil onto the engaging surfaces.
The oil film in the bag lasts for many months and remember - less is best or a from an old haircare advert... a lil' dab will do ya.

'Slipping the bolt' now takes on a whole new meaning ; )

Hello All,

I just found this Forum today and it looked very good, so I had to join.

I have been a military firearms collector for 40+ years. Even as a kid, I wanted the $9.95 K-Mart Carcano Rifles they had for sale, LOL! My main interest is in German WWII weapons with the main ones being the Luger, P,38, and K98k Mausers. I also have several belt-fed guns.
