From the apparent ages, post #103 would be Landsturm I assume?
The second photo in post #105 shows three C96 pistols being worn I believe, do you have any information about how these were assigned?
Edit: flaps look more like artillery Lugers on second thought.
A l'entrée en guerre la dotation en P.08 pour les mitrailleurs est la suivante:
1- 1914: Maschinengewehr-Kompanien (M.G.K) 80 pistolets.
2 - 1914: Maschinengewehr- Abteilungen (M.G.A) 44 pistolets.
3 - 1914: Ersatz-Maschinengewehr-Kompagnie (E.M.G.K) 189 pistolets.
Since we're on the subject, could you or your friend explain the details of the four formations mentioned and why the issue of pistols seems to decline as the war progresses? (if not the obvious reason of supply vs. demand)
SURPMIL I have sent him an email asking.
More 08/15 - I am still looking for certain items if anybody knows of a source.

I haven't seen any offered for sale recently.
:D
There was a tendency for some of the operators sent back as PoWs' to revert to combatant status on the way if given the chance.
After that became known fewer were sent back.
I'll have to try that out on some German friends!
And in a French a "Beresina" is still a great disaster. Though they've forgotten that it was only thanks to the Dutch engineers that it was not a complete disaster!
The relatively comfy and casual eastern front?

Again squad of 5 plus a medic!
Night sight or muzzle cover on the left hand rifle?
Not the best of photos to determine Surpmil. Just to add some colour to the threads.

Does anyone out there own a MG08/15 with perhaps surplus accessories? Looking for a few items but I also have some spare pieces for trade. Images can be supplied. Especially the types of bipods seen above?

Your photo links are dead.
You are right, something has gone horrifically wrong with the image function.
Seems the upload image function has collapsed.
You are right - all images lost. I will ask the Moderators.

Good Evening All,
I have recently purchased a T-Gewehr and we are having discussions on the bipod that came with the rifle. From the descriptions above, my bipod is the "Expedient" version with a more recently applied heavy coat of green paint. We do need the measurements of the bipod base on a MG08/15. The group is not sure if the bipods for the 08/15 are truly direct fits. A good set of measurements would help our discussion. Thanks, Randy
The 08/15 bipod will fit and was used on many T gewehrs.
The other more commonly used bipod had a wider stance, tublar legs and larger feet.
The feet were almost cupped, and I assume to compensate for the mud in the battle field where the 08/15 would be used in a more static position.
Just my call on it having had both types of bipods.
If you need pictures and measurements of an 08/15 bipod just PM me and I will see what I can do for you
cheers,
I am looking for a heavy tubular steel bipod, for an 08/15 but yes these were stronger and designed for the ATNK rifle. Some images. Mark

Happy Christmas Canadian machine gunners!

Apologies for absence. Blame Mr Putin. Looking to re-energise this thread and of course I am still looking for key items, purchase or exchange.
Happy Christmas everyone.

Interesting that none of the pictures (that I looked at anyway) showed MG08's mit ruckstarkverstarker (sp?) which is a simple metal plate mounted to the barrel for escaping gases to impinge upon thereby returning the recoiling barrel to battery quicker speeding up the cyclic rate. An MG08 mit schlitten und ruckstarkverstarker was my very first ever DEWAT I owned in Canada so many years ago. I've attached a file photo showing the plate, unfortunately I don't think I have any pictures of my MG08 which I sold a long time ago.
Sapper740 have a look in the MG08 thread please. This is the 08/15 post but great info thanks. Great shame you do not have her anymore.

Compare the labour put into the OHP there with what we typically see in videos of the fighting in Ukraine.
The hose is rather a long one and goes nowhere. A section photo for the folks at home?
A well known photo: Trophy Gun of the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles Okanagan Military History
Thanks for this. There are many images of trophy’ items brought back to Canada. Apologies for absence but now back for some time.

Superb view of the 08/15 spares case, leather version.

Could be dated to some extent from the introduction of that particular gas mask?
I had one of those...
BROWNINGAUTORIFLE - what happened to it?
Mark
It was sold locally, as in somewhere out here on the west coast. I was never privy as to where. It was nice, missing the lock(bolt) itself. I had one here from a Vickers but not close enough. Usually it was the feed block thrown away. The barrel was even OK, had a steel rod with automotive Bondo holding it in. Whole thing cleaned up well, I left the original paint and it had original mud encrusted in the foot spikes. He tried to contact you back then to no avail.
