hi, the names pete, iv just joined this forum, iv 20 + years in the trade and have worked for several well known companys including parker hale in birmingham england till they were forced into close down.
just a quick note to say hello.
my best to you all, Pete
Hello all.... not really a collector. Just an avid interest in milsurp Mausers. In the process of acquiring a M24/47 Yugo Mauser. It's been partially sporterized. Recoil pad installed and ALL metal parts are jet black and no matching numbers that I have found when checking it out at the dealer. Action is very smooth, bright rifling and dark grooves so we'll see how it does after I get it checked out by my favorite gunsmith.
Enjoy the week end!!

I am a firearm enthusiast and collector. Would like to learn more about the M-1 Carbine sent to me from my uncle and discuss with others about all military weapons.
Good day all! I am Scott, I have been collecting firearms since I obtained my first one at age seven. I was introduced to the site by Badger. Thanks!
Hello. My name is Elyott and I live in a country that frowns on rifles that are semi-auto centrefire plus detatchable magazine i.e. FN FAL plus variants. What I mean by 'frowns on' is 14 years for possesion. Whoever of you who legally own the above rifle- do not take your status for granted: take a moment to savour not being classed as a criminal. Thankyou.

Hello all,
Newly retired US Military Sniper. 21 years as a gun nut with all the guns I could ever want until this month. In retirement working on my collection. It feels good to exercise the freedoms that I once worked so hard to protect. And loving every minute of it.
PS: got to work with your Canadian Special Forces and made a life long friend good people. Well I played hockey as a kid in the states and all my friends where transplants so I guess I always knew that I liked the culture.
Thank-you to all you Canadian Solders not enough is said about you all. Thank-you for your service overseas stay safe and "Happy Hunting".

Hello chargerclip - and welcome !
Hello - From Virginia! I have been searching the net for info/advice since my Dad gave me 3 - '03s & I bought an Eddystone M1917 - this seems to be the the place to gain a wealth of knowledge. I am thinking about trying cast bullets in all the rifles (buying not casting). Recently found a place to shoot - 2 hours away but seems to be a good place - shares with 4H & Boy Scouts and you must be an NRA member. Would appreciate any info on shooting cast- best bullets - best places to buy
hey guys. now that i am retired (survivor of 9/11) looking to get back into shooting an possibly reloading and just in general, enjoying some of the stuff i used to do
Hello, everyone. I'm a new member, long-time shooter, but have only a very few military arms: M1, 1903A3, Swiss 1911, (two)Swiss K-31, Broomhandle Mauser, and an old Walther Model 4 that was taken from a German officer in WWII (by my uncle). My favorite shooter, right now is the K-31. The Swiss brass seems too good to throw away, so I have been hydraulically de-priming them and am currently in search of RWS 5620 (or equivalent) primers. I may have found a source through this forum: Clark Vance at Schattenbaum Mechanical in Blue Springs, MO. I'm waiting to hear from him, now. I'll post whatever info I get.
For you K-31 shooters: A Mass. State Police balistics expert tells me that he sizes .284 Winchester brass in a 7.5x55 Swiss die and and fire-forms them in the K-31. He gets great results with lead bullets. Who knew?
I have to say this place has so much distraction for me that I may not ever get anything else done. I have always been fascinated by firearms of all kinds but in a good way. It all started when I made my school's rifle team shooting .22 rounds. (It was a military high school mid 80's)
After that I bought my first rifle, a Mini-14 to shoot at the range. It sucked to put it frankly but it was cheep. For the life of me I couldn't get 10 rounds in the black using hard sights at 100 yds. Later on I added an M1A. It is a standard model and was awesome to shoot but didn't get to shoot it much. (starving college student at the time). The receiver has a weird marking on it but I'll post that in the proper forum. I inherited a bunch of other firearms when my grandfather passed. These were:
Handguns - Berretta 92F Compact (1980's) and a S&W .38 snub-nose dated '51.
Rifles - .50 Cal. black powder rifle made by Thompson Center Arms (scares me), and a Winchester 30-30, 1950's I think.
Shotguns - Winchester Model 12 in 16g. Winchester Model 42 in .410g, an Ithica 16g and a Baker dble-barrell 16g. Mostly used for pheasant I think.
I really know nothing about them other than they were lovingly cared for. I hope to pass them on to my son someday but maybe in here I will be able to put more information to each. How old, etc... That is about it! Sorry if this is too long of a post. Lerenis

I am a new member but a long time collector. I am a disabled vet and typing has to be done on the on screen keyboard a mouse pointer hunt and click exercise so I don't often comment. I do shoot from a bench with friends who are nice enough to run targets.
Hello all. I really like the milsurp guns. I like the sporterized guns as practical hunting tools . I had a M1917(Remington 9-18)that I just found too long & heavy & I couldn't stand to see it getting any more dinged up. Bought it at a gun auction about 20 yrs ago for $90 and sold it last fall for $300. It still was in very good - excellent cond. I currently have a sporterized SMLE that was handed down and nobody else wanted. I want to update to an ATI stock & scope mount hoping the stock will take the sting out of it and I just can't see the open sights any more. Nice talking to you.
Just a quick note to say hi. I am a new member here, but have been collecting and shooting for years. Still looking to learn. Chris
Hi to all:
I'm new to this forum, but not to guns. My fgirst military weapon was a metric-calber Remington roling blockl single shot acquired as a high-school freshman through the US Mail for $14.95, plus shipping. (Now those were good old days!) My firt mil. sidearm was a Swedish contract FN Browning semi-auto in cal. 9x17mm (380ACP) Price, w/2 mags and issue pigshin holster: $19.95! Still good old days.
A lot of stuff has come and gone since then, but I still have those two.
Mostly into military rifles now. Have M1's, Springfield, Mausers.
Hey all, Thudhugger here, stopped by for the knowledge really like the site, think I'll stay around.
Thud
I'm a newbie with with three m1 Garands. Probably not as exotic as some firearms out there but I like them. 1 early receiver 25,XXX that is a mixmaster, one early '45 correct thatI suspect is a restoration, and my shooter 750,XXX.

Hello fellow collectors. I am a retired engineer and collect firearms with a special interest in WWII. I have 4 carbines and 3 m1's in my 77 gun collection. My latest acquisitions are an AR 15 and Ruger 44 carbine and a Polytech m-14. At one time the US taxpayer paid me $85/month to tote an M14 and now I pay an high fee for a Commie version !
hello I love military rifles.sorry not so good at computers.cheers.
Another collector of strictly European and Asian firearms from the WW2 period and earlier.
Hi,
Just joined the forum. Used to frequent the Culver sites. My interests are competitive shooting and arms collecting, mainly WWII era equipment. Garands are my weakness!

Hi everyone, new member that collects, buys and sells millsurps&parts but my main interest is trapshooting, regards Tony.
Hi Folks! New member here checking in. I've been collecting milsurps for about eight years now and I'm also an active member of gunboards and AR15.com with the same user name. Hopefully I can add some informative input here and gain some knowledge also.
New to the forum. Found it looking for information on Garands & M1A1s. Lots of good things to review & read. Collecting Garands, M1A1, Finnish M39s, Arisaka 38 & 99, Russian, FN49s, Mausers, 1903 & A3s, and FN FALs.
New man here. I've never owned milsurp arms but I am interested in them. I'm in N.C.
Just found this place. :D
I'm an old coot from Texas. USN 'Nam vet and lover of loud things and sharp things. My collection of old guns has dwindled over the years. About all I can do now is say stuff like, " I had one of those." One I haven't gotten rid of nor will I ever get rid of is Uncle Homer's M-1. It's a keeper.
https://www.milsurps.com/images/impo...appyface-1.jpg
Uncle Homer forgot to give it back to Uncle Sam at the end of WWII. He carried it through the Pacific campaign as 2nd Class Radio man and SEABEE. He got killed the year I was born in 1952. It's 100% 1942 and complete as issued except for the bayonet.
Happiness is a warm Garand.
Salud!

I just like the study of miltary guns and the history of it all.thanks

Greetings All
Just started collecting Enfield P-17.
Great info on this site. Thanks
Hi there, 1st post though I joined a wee while back while checking on a new arrival, the best kind, one I was given. I've been a shooter & part time collector for several decades now, more the former than the later though I run to a LE No5 Mk1 (JC), No4 Mk1 (Longbranch), 1896 Swedish Mauser (6.5x55), Siamese Mauser (8x52) & a couple of 1898 Pattern Mausers, 7x57 & 7,65x53 (1909 Arg) as well as a P14 Enfield, all these in original or nearly so condition. I also have some actions & sporterised (bubbarised :) ;) ) examples too, the new arrival is one such, as far as I can figure its a No1 Mk1 action, once had a sliding cover, safety on cocking piece. It has at some time though been rebarrelled which was how I found my way here, trying to ID the barrel, it may be a Lithgow Mk3 heavy (sniper?) barrel, certainly heavier than a standard LE barrel. With a Mk3 style tangent rear sight, thumb wheel elevation adjustment & knurled knob to adjust for windage. A beautiful bit of craftsmanship in my book. Some fascinating stuff on this sight & I'll be spending some time here from time to time.
Steve.
helllo all i just got a fn fal so im trying to find out all that i can thanks for having me
Hello all....
I'm John and I've been collecting firearms most of my life. I'm particularly interested in military surplus weapons. I live in "The Peoples Republic of Illinois" (don't hold that against me;)) and do my best to change the messed up gun laws that we have.
Looking forward to interacting with and learning from the folks on this site.
Greetings all new member been collecting for around 15 years,of course funds dictate what and when.
Hi Peter Jones a new member living in the UK. Havebeen reloading for nearly 30 years and now ish to re-load 577/450 Martini Henry. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, new to the board. I have a couple of M1 Carbines: one quality hardware, one M1A1. Not real sure how "original" the M1A1 is. I'd like to post some pics and get your comments?
Thanks!
Hi, new to the board. Most of my operational experience has been with 'black' rifles and pistols. About one year ago I got into MILSURP, since then I have added several rifles and pistols. Now the reloading press runs a lot with the good old stuff. New to reloading too, got into that when I started collecting. My present and past employer's did not and do not allow reloaded ammunition in their 'tools.' Just rescued a Bubba'd Remington 1903A3 all matching but with horribly disfigured furniture, will post pics and start thread soon.
Nice to meet you all.
Just found this forum looking for ideas to up grade my Carbine
Currently I own
M1 Garand
Underwood M1 Carbine
Rock River Tactical LAR 4
and several civilian shots and rifles
2 9mm pistols
Hi,
Looks like a great forum with lots of international members and a great place to learn. My C&R bound book is only about 5 1/2 years old and has 38 entries. I want to shift focus from accumulation to quality. This looks like the place to learn. My preference is for arsenal rebuilt examples rather than factory originals . I just do not have the resources to give original artifacts the storage and care they deserve.
Glad to be here.
Howdy,
I am a new member and since I bought a Johnson I found this site. I have read many a thread and found it very useful with many knowledgeable people.

Hi,
Logging in for the first time. Currently researching the options for acquiring a .303 - either a LE No 4 Mk 2 or a P14. Not helped by UK firearms laws.
Used both Enfield No 8 & No 4 Mk 1 long ago in cadets and then L42A1 while serving, so am a long time enthusiast for the LE

Hi all,
New here, recently started buying older military rifles/carbines. Most of my knowladge is AR15/M16 related. I started with newer ar's then nodak started making retro's, then I started looking into other older military rifles and got hooked to the history behind these weapons.
So here I am.
Chris
Hello everyone! Greetings from Maple Valley in the beautiful state of Washington.
Love the Garands, and I'm looking forward to learning even more about them via this Forum. Seems like a very good group of friendly and experienced folks reside here.
Most of my interest has been in collecting and shooting Colt and Smith & Wesson revolvers, but a renewed love of the M1 has become a great source of enjoyment recently, and I've become especially enamored of creating my own hand-loaded ammo specific to the rifle. Its a fascinating study of it's own.
Thanks for being here--
Tony
hello everyone, you might recognize me from surplusrifle or gunboards. I love collecting any model of military bolt action rifles, i currently have 30 or so. I guess you could consider me a beginner compared to some of you guys :D. Anyways, I hope to learn a lot at this site as i have others about the wonderful surplus rifles we collect :beerchug:
New member here, have been shooting since I was outa diapers! My love affair with the M1Carbine started over 40 years ago, so I figured I should be right at home here!
Hi all, I just found the site and registered, looks great!
I got my first surplus rifle in 1969 at the age of 14....a Model 95 Mauser, and I'm still at it!
Here's a pic of me shooting my oldest one, an 1877 vintage Dutch Beaumont-Vitali:

hello everyone,, checking in from the woods of mississippi,, looks like a site that i will really enjoy,, as i grew up with all these weapons,, i really appreciate these fine old shooters.
I have a few "old guns" among which is an Enfield No1 MkIII and am interested in locating some sort of history on it. The Ser.# is 2409654-P1635...with the assortment of numbers on it, none of which match...I think it was assembled from parts of others. Has a lot of usage, from being dragged around battlefields, I suppose. Barrel is very good and action also. It shoots about 1/2" low at 100yds.
Any help with this old dude would be most appreciated. Also under the bolt handle is says Enfield 1917 SMLE III*.
Cruffler
Hello
What a great site. Especially the stickys with WWII videos!
Mike in KY
Glad to find this site. I've always had a few old Garands, but recently started getting interested in WWII mausers and other milsurp guns. Only problem is coming to the party late it costs more. I read about barrels of old milsurp guns for $35 each and I want to cry.... Finding even old RC mausers for less than $250 is now a challenge. Anyway, I look forward to participating in discussions and enjoying the knowledge displayed on this board. Casus
New member but have lurked a while. Not a serious collector but am interested in O3s and M1s. I have learned quite a lot in my lurking and I appreciate the collective knowledge this forum provides.
Hi new member from Mississippi. Just purchased my first M1. Looking forward to shooting it this weekend.
I have been collecting Antique Firearms for over 15 years, most in my collection being Civil War era Colt pistols. I was made aware of this site by member drm2m's post of a "Model 1851 Colt Navy - manufactured 1857 with U. S. Government [Army] markings' I recently purchased a similar Colt Navy and would be interested the the view of any informed member as to the rarity and current value of this acquisition. It is a third model with a brass strap, serial number 46000, and is a government owned model, as it has a 'star' stamping on the face of the cylinder [See '51 Colt Navies' by Swayze, page 83, plate 44]. It also has over 90 percent of its original military dull blue finish remaining, mixed with some traces of brown, and the brass backstrap and triggerguard appear never to have been silver plated. Apart from the all matching serial numbers, the markings are faint. The overall condition is not pristine but is consistent with significant military use, with the butt used as a hammer. Many thanks. Bob
Kindly see my message in the New Member Introductions Thread. Thanks. Bob
New Member from North Carolina checking in.
Fairly active over on ar15.com, but I'm falling back into C&Rs (especially Enfields).
Hi everyone. What a great site...informative and friendly. I am in the proces of aquiring a SMLE 1916 and have found loads of useful information here.
Many thanks
Hello. I am new to this site. Lifelong collector. Love German and contract rifles but have had everything.
I just purchased a british no. 42 Mk 1 sniper scope in excellent condition, in fact amazing condition. Where can I locate the correct pads and mounts. Current mounts sold at SARCO Inc. do not have windage and elevation adjustments. The no. 42 Mk 1 is nothing more than a tube with cross hairs and a range finder, very unique and know this is a great scope if i can find the correct mounts. i can purchase the pads but what is the correct militay mount used as this maybe the type of mount that allows for windage and elevation adjustment. Please help and all advice is welcomed. Also if anyone has pictures please post. thank you sftech553
Hello to all. I'm looking forward to discussions regarding 1903 Springfield and variants. Have a WWI and an A3, both sporterized. I think I have alot to learn and believe I've found many good sources. Thanks in advance!
Welcome to all the new members. If you can post pictures of your "Stuff".
We all like to see photo's of what everyone has. It's easy to do.
So once again welcome, hang around, check out the other sections you will learn much more than you thought!!. Here's a couple of mine.
First my 1903, I waited a couple of years to find one in this condition.

Hello Everyone I'm a new member. I have a few old surplus rifles and pistols and pistols and a bunch of commercial ones. I've been reading a lot of the posts and realized you guys are a wealth of info.
Hello! Long time lurker here looking to learn some more! I would describe myself as generally familiar with most military firearms, but not an expert when it comes to the details!
Hello there!
My name is Keith Oakes & I live in Essex, United Kingdom. I thought I'd join you all on here & meet some like minded people. If anyone feels like a chat, feel free to contact me. Come on, I won't bite! ;-)
I have been interested in firearms since I was very young as my dad was a keen restorer of military vehicles. He'd buy deactivated weapons & mount them on the vehicles and I was fascinated! He gave me a great book called 'Small Arms' & I read it cover to cover countless times. As it turned out, I ended up teaching him & I still have as strong an interest now as I ever did. In fact, I am in the process of writing my own book so any help in the way of pictures would be much appreciated.
Newest member here,
own a carbine that was handed down to me, have had it close to thirty years, and as of today, own a Garand, CMP store visit paid off with a Service Grade Special. Trying to learn more about finishing the wood on it to smooth it out and give it a little darkness.
I was wondering if my enfields' head space was out osf sepc. Here I found out that remington brass was junk. Thanks I am going to be doing a lot of reading here. I like Masuers , Enfields and the like.
