Hi I'm eddie Natt, I read the above posts and took note of halhunt's. I never heard of norinco making a sa. vz. 58 varient (cz 858), only thing like that ( in 7.62*39) were ak's and sks's.
Dear friends, I recently inherited a Springfield sporter from my Dad who had it given to him as a gift. When he had it given to him it would have been between 1959-61? He told me he had never fired a shot out of it since he owned it and neither did his Uncle who he got it from. I am not sure but I think he bought it, or won it at a Gunshow. Would it be safe to use for hunting or worth more as is? Details are as follows: Stamped on the barrel just after the action, U.S.
SPRINGFIELD
ARMOURY
MODEL 1903
876xxx
On the top of the barrel (mid stock) C120
On the underside of the barrel about 3" from the tip is the letter P
On the bolt handle is the stamp N.S. (just below the sight)
It has a REDFIELD peep sight
Is there any other markings I should look for? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hello folks, and greetings from Chesapeake, VA! My name is Tim and I've been a gun nut since somewhere around age 9.... I think the M1 Carbine was new that year! Anyhow, all of my previous gun intrest have been in newer firearms. Now I have the MILSURPLUS bug and I can see it spreads fast! My first M1 Carbine is coming to me from CMP soon, I hope. I look foward to learning from all of you and sticking my nose in there some as well! Warm regards,
Tim
Hello there, I'm a new member here. I've only got 2 rifles in my slow building process of my old rifles collection. My first one is a MN 91 from 1943 and I have an M1 Garand (finally) born on November of 1944. I'm lookin to learn as much as I can about my M1 as I wore myself out learnin about my Mosin Nagant. With all that said, I'm off the the M1/M14 forum to educate myself. Happy shootin!
Stuart says hello to everyone and is looking for info on safn-49 in caliber7.65x53 or a venizulan contract rifle.
I am new to this forum, but not to shooting. I have a 1903A3 that was sporterized back in the 50's that I want to convert back to CMP Legal shape. Not concerned with the value of the gun, as it will never be sold. (Family owned gun for over 60 years.)
I need information on how to restore the rear sight. It has a Layman sight installed that will not pass muster at the club for CMP shooting. I have found sights on Ebay, but not clear on how to mount the sights. Any photos?
Thanks
Also, if I post the serial number can anyone tell me the date range of the gun?
Well I got the answer to my questions from this forum. I got the date of manufacture and the model, what a surprise it was that my gun is a 1903A1. I thought it was an A3 due to the rear sights being on the receiver and not the barrel. I guess now I need to determine how to proceed. Can I fit the A3 sights to the receiver, not clear until I take it apart. I found the sight removal thread so at least I have that for reference.
Hello from a fellow m96 shooter! :D
Hello, I am a new guy as well. Looking forward to educating myself.
