Joining this group after you have solved some of my questions already by looking
at many of the posts on this site. I'm retired Navy, and now retired drawing retirement and pension. I've have had a few old guns over the years. I do have a few newer handguns, all my long arms are older then myself.

I have been collecting various weapons over the years. Started with Fox and LC Smith shotguns, then Military knives, (bolos etc), now some mil-stuff,
303 Jungle Carbine, and a M1 most recently.
hello, glad to find this site, i am acollctor and will fid it interesting.
Just saying hello - I've been shooting for years and I own an Enfield, Mauser, Mosins, AR-15, AK's, etc. But today I plunked down a deposit on my first Garand! It's a .308 so I hope that's OK - maybe not a purist's idea of a Garand, but I have plenty of .308 ammo so... Now I'm busy buying clips and learning about the gun.
The guy who owns the gun store is very helpful and told me about a 1,000 yard range not too far away; I'll start out at 100yds and work my way up:lol: Maybe I'll look into a scope mount that doesn't do any permanent "damage" to the rifle (although it's already been converted to .308). Any suggestions?
I'm going to pick the gun up in a couple of weeks at the latest, so I'll try and post pics and try to get in a "range report" - but it will probably only be 100 yards so... I'll also get the specific info on the gun - manufacturer, barrel type, etc. Maybe the serial number will give me a lead on "where the gun has been over the years"?
I'm sure I'll have plenty of noob questions in the future and I'm looking forward to learning as I go.

I live in rural Manitoba and very new to gun collecting for target shooting and hunting purposes. :beerchug:
I will probably end up asking a lot of dumb questions but please bear with me and not too many smartass remarks as this usually just confuses the hell out of me and never answers what I want to know.
I have always found it much easier to ask or be asked a stupid question and give an honest answer than to try and fix a stupid mistake.:)

Hello everyone. I was a regular at the old CSP website. Been gone a long time but hopefully will be posting again soon.
Hi Guys (and any Gals I might have missed?). 49 year old collector here. Never served in the forces, but my Dad and Uncles did and I learned firearms handling, shooting and hunting from them, as well as a respect for the serviceman. Developed my own interest in modern day combat arms and many of those are now considered historical developments. Have a special place in my heart for the original Armalite company and the Sterling Armaments company as well. Did a limited stint with Reed Knight of Knights Armament fame here in Florida. Met Eugene Stoner through Reed before Mr. Stoner passed (this was back in 1995) Reed's personal collection includes the early prototypes from Eugene Stoner as well as the ONLY AR-16 (Armalite) I have ever seen in real life (their .308 version of the AR-18), plus many, many more seldom seen examples of firearms. Some from Knight's own design efforts.
Have my favorite English rifles in the form of several Lee-Enfields ( a No. 4 and a Sante Fe conversion to a Jungle Carbine), an L1A1 rebuild on DSA receiver and a Sterling Mk 6 semi auto carbine (16" silly wanker barrel). From a purist standpoint, nothing very special, but I love shooting them all the same. Hoping to find some sources in the UK for Suit sight parts. This seemed like a good place to start? Also for some L1A1 information.
Always interesting to see how the firearms community and regulations work in other parts of the world. Took a trip to England, summer of 2006 and had a BLAST! Went to the War and Peace show at Hop Farm and loved every second of that thing. Would love to get back to England soon. The museums are FANTASTIC!
Hi everyone, My name is Bob and been interested in WW2 european theatre since visiting normandy 47 years ago. I am knew to collecting and just bought a ww2 mauser G33/40 dot 42 8mm . Any one know the length of the cleaning rods on these as mine is missing were they numbered? Also, what bayonet did they use--- were they numbered? Did they use the Czech 24/33 bayonet?
