No quality control on Wolf Ammo??

Well, according to one of Wolf's websites, they perform 16 quality checks on each round of ammo Wolf Ammunition Wolf, Ammunition, ammo, pistol, rifle, shotgun, shells, buckshot, 22 Match Target

That said, I've fired 1000's of rounds of Wolf's 7.62X39 through my sks's without any problems except excessive soot build-up on the internals. As far as handguns, I've heard it from 2 gunsmiths that steel casings do break extractors in many modern semi-auto's.

For me, I'll keep using it in my sks's, but NEVER in any of my handguns. Did I mention that Wolf ammo is dirty? Well it is. But OTOH, it shoots fairly accurate too.

I was able to check the web site but I cannot now find the information. I don't know if it's been dumped or pulled or what but I cannot find it. But if you know any active or retired FBI agents you might ask them about the news letter they all receive. The information on the Russian ammo was also printed in that back about April of this year.

well I have never seen a broken extractor in my life, much less actually had one break on me.

The "my gunsmith told me" stuff is just more BS like this "well known" bad russian ammo via no QC stuff you are trying to sell folks. iIMHO.

Heck, even if SOMEHOW a 4340 Hardened Spring Steel extractor breaks PULLING (extractors don't "dig") on some very soft (you can actually cut it with a very sharp knife) russian steel case, since this is PLINKING/Blasting ammo, I guess I can afford the 12 bucks replacement cost and 5 minutes to fix it for either an AR or 1911 extractor should one ever break..

Wolf is NOT dirtier, it can SHOOT sootier because it may tend to not seal off blowback as well in the chamber.

As a certified law enforcement firearms instructor I am at the range a lot. I don't mind sharing MY experiance with WOLF ammo:

Our standard issue weapon are Glocks in .40 S&W. We have no more problems with Wolf ammo than any other ammo in .40 S&W. I think this is because Glocks will pretty much digest anything that fits in the chamber.

Our officers are allowed to carry back up and off duty weapons of their own choosing as long as it's approved by the department range master. Therefore we see a lot of different calibers, mainly .380, 9mm, and .38/.357. I have seen a lot of different firearms that have problem with .380 Wolf ammo. Walthers, Sigs, Rugers, and Kel Tecs; the common problem seems to be the ammo, not the weapon. For 9mm, again Glocks (and Sigs) seem to feed most anything that will fit in the chamber, including Wolf ammo. I have seen issues with Kahr and S&W semi-autos in 9mm not liking Wolf ammo.

Our department does not issue patrol rifles/carbines but officers are allowed to carry approved personal owned rifles which include AR's, Mini-14's, Ruger PC 9 and PC 4, and M1 carbines. I've seen a good bit of Wolf ammo in .223 with really no problems I can relate to the ammo. The Ruger PC's (patrol carbines) have Glock like reliabilty and seem to work with most anything you can stick in the chamber.

I shoot a good deal of 7.62x39 in SKS's and AK clones and have never had a problem with Wolf ammo in this caliber.

And finally, .30 carbine. Our department finds the M1 carbine a fine patrol weapon for officers and we still have 12 to 15 still in regular use. No rumor, just my direct experiance, we have had a lot of problem with Wolf ammo in .30 carbine. Fail to feed, fail to fire, and yes, thrown or broken extractors. Problems really start to exhibit themselves after 100 to 150 rounds without cleaning. We're not talking about 60 year old safe queen carbines, but USGI carbines that have been rebuilt and well maintained and are at least fired at the range two or three times a year.

In summary, I personally don't purchase Wolf ammo of any caliber at any price anymore.

1. you have good results with .40 Wolf in Glocks.
2. Glocks and SIgs digest virtually any other caliber Wolf as well.
3 there are no problems with .223 Wolf AR's.
4. you shoot a good deal of 7.62X39 in SKS's and AK clones and "have never had a problem+ with Wolf ammo.
5. AND finally, the .30 Carbine does not seem to be as succesful in your Department's weapons.

BUT (and this is the part that doesn't make much sense),

YOU "personally don't purchase Wolf ammo of any caliber at any price anymore."

why would you NOT purchase .40, 9mm, .223, and 7.62X39 for PRACTICE AMMO (if in any way you are even partially alluding to use of Wolf for duty ammo, I would completely discount anything you said further), if the stuff WORKS and COSTS LESS??

In fact, knowing for a FACT that many LEO Agencies (including the one I have very close contacts with in NC) are having a heck of a time FINDING and or AFFORDING (with big price rises) ammo of any type, your comments make even less sense.

I don't use Wolf because I have had broken extractors in two firearms with it. Maybe I'm an exception, but two is two too many for me. No more Wolf......

Geez, lighten up Hugh. We are all entitled to our own opinion. It doesn't matter if we base our opinion on our own experience or what we hear from gunsmiths and/or other shooters. There are at least a dozen or 2 ammo manufacturers. Some are better than others.....some are cheaper than others. We reserve the right to choose which ammo we shoot. If you like Wolf.......by all means use it. Like I said, I still have a case of Wolf 7.62X39 and plan on using it in my sks's. But, I'll never use it in my handguns.

Just shot Wolf 30 carbine ammo through my carbine for the first time this weekend. Worked flawlessly. I was told not toby wolf for my aR15 as the rfles supposedly don't like the steel cases. However I have friends that shoot it in theirs. Peter
