A. In answer to the OP, there are many professional jobs available on military bases. For instance, the bulk of the work carried out at Naval Shipyards is done by civil service employees of the military and by contractors. For instance, though the original purpose of Annapolis and West Point was to turn out military civil engineers, most of the work is done in the private or civil service world and is only overseen and directed by military engineers. As a result, there are lots of excellent and noble careers to be had in military support.
B. The animosity between civil service and military runs deep and forms a long-standing theme in conversations. You need to know that there are jerks and saints on both sides of the issue. Let's not use this board to skewer each other all over again.

as a retired civilian employee from an air force base I can tell you one thing for certain, a military base is the MOST PC work place I had ever worked at!
it is endless classes on race, sexual harassment, homosexual tolerance, promotion by quotas etc.
and if you are a white male you are THE target at every class!
