Well things seem to be happening on this-spring break has been keeping me busy, glad I checked. Glad Mr.Canfield is taking a look, and I will take better photos asap. I don't have the model 12 handy, but the serial number is about 60 digits over Viper's as I recall.

I need to make a correction as to the S/N of my riot gun.
Got it out in Daylight to make photos. After checking the pics on the computer ..... the S/N is 92687X
I was reading the 8 as a 3 !!
Guess my eyes are not what they use to be..
Does this mean I'm getting old ?? I suppose mid 50's is old to some folks.

Ok Bobby and John, here are my pics, I think we need to perhaps put all three guns on this or another post to have them all in one spot, these pics of mine are way better than the first round. Thanks everyone for all the help.
I find these posts extremely interesting as my father was a WWII areial gunner on a 20 mm cannon. He told me the story of how he ended up a gunner. Seems that after Great Lakes boot camp he was sent to California in January of 1943. There he was given a 38 pistol and told to guard planes at a naval air station. While there his unit was taken to both trap and skeet ranges to see who could shoot well on aerial targets. Being a hunter he did well and next thing he knew he was in aerial gunner training. When training began they in addition to trap and skeet took them to what we would refer to as sporting clays ranges for training with surprise targets while walking a course.
After training he was sent to South Pacific and was assigned to a ship when he got to Bouganville. He was also part of the invasion fleet for Japan in addition to other actions during his 3 years in south Pacific.
Interestingly he commented that they had trained with model 12's which he never liked prefering stevens hump back pump he had as a kid and the browning designed hump back auto's. Will quiz him more when i see him next. Maybe I can find out if they used riot barreled guns for the skeet course and longer for the trap.

Yes that would be great if you would check with your dad. I would also like to know, did the training ever involve ring sights bolted on to the barrel of the shotgun, or was just the standard shotgun sights used? You might note the bracket mounted on my Model 12 barrel pics in this thread.
Very interesting subject...I have had this old girl around for some time and would like to know ..is she a Riot gun with a Bayonet or?? No heat shield..
Looks to be a Winchester model 12 Trench Gun. Mainly because of the serial number and the magazine tube. Hopefully you can locate a 4 X 19 handguard and have it riveted to the bayonet adapter.
Riot guns have a tapered barred and a ring for the barrel band to attach to the magazine tube. Trench gun magazine tubes don't have the extra hole for the take down pin.
